Sir Sidney Snot
If the rubbish collection in the UK will ONLY be fortnightly will the Council tax go down?
They will save a fortune if they cut out one weeks collections and what are the implications on jobs

My rubbish collection has been fortnightly for about a year now, and amazingly enough my council tax went up!!!!

Amy_Lou
Where I live, the rubbish has been collected every fortnight for the last two years. They collect the big bin every 2 weeks and alternate so one week they collect the recycling, the next its the bin, then back to recycling etc. At first you think what a crap idea but if you recycle all your cans, tins, bottles, paper, glass etc, I dont have a full bin very often. When it starts to get full, its the bins turn for collection so I have no problems what so ever. The only problem is if you forget to put your stuff out for collection cause then you have to wait another two weeks and then you have no choice but to take it the tip!! And Council tax has not gone down.

Ni
lmao, council tax will never go down, the services will get worse and the tax will go up, its how it goes!

bluecow
i doubt it will mate.

it might even go UP!..why, coz they need to buy more toys and tv's to keep those full-time bin-men occupied, otherwise it might infringe on the 'Health and safety' laws..(it might not be safe to sit around doing SH@T, so they must be doing something)

Pinhead
what are they implications on health, all that rubbish hanging round?

no tax wont go down (dont be silly!! )
jobs wise ::::: they will employ more people to go around the streets clearing up the mess because the rubbish is only collected once a fortnight ??????/
What a "mess" this country is getting into!!!

Carrot
there is a chance council tax will be reduced but the fraction of council tax that goes to waste collection is tiny in comparison. It depends on the council but is less than £100 per year.

If collections of waste are reduced it could mean recycling collections could become more frequent. I dont think there is going to be a risk to the number of jobs at all

LMFAO!!!!

Zippy, that's hilarious.

You have to remember that you're dealing with council official-dom, a realm separate to the real world where common sense and logic have long since been outlawed.

Trust me, as someone who's lived with the fortnightly collections with alternate weeks being either green brown bin day or brown green bin day, blue box and green bag collections it doesn't go down.

In fact you can expect it to go up in direct proportion to the lack of service, stench and number of flies the unsanitary conditions create in Summer.

How else would they afford the little yellow tags that tell you when your bin contents have flouted the 'official contents list'?

Concil Tax go down.... HA HA.... No they will put it up!!!!! They never put tax down!

No, it will rocket upwards to try and clear up all the mess from fly tippers! Not to forget the pest problems we might get, like rats or foxes rummaging through our bins.

agent flora
I think they are looking to install a 'pay as you throw' scheme. Which hardly seems fair.

Ours changed from weekly to fortnightly and shortly afterwards our land rates increased =(

dels replies
Don't be daft. The idea of fortnightly collections is because of the greatly increased rate of recycling. The idea is week 1 refuse.week2 recycle items. The council have to do this or they will need twice as many vehicles and men if they were to do two or three vehicles visiting each site weekly.

luludoodie
No reduction, their excuse will be "if we still collected weekly it would have to go up". And guess what, next year it will go up anyway!

As for jobs there will be no reductions, the unions would not allow it.

suziejoy
no it will keep on going up no matter what they do they have to get revenue off us so that they can have their jollys at the council tax payers expence and c.o.l. will always rise
