On a joint return, the check will come payable to both of you. You both must sign it and technically yes, it is split half. Doesn't matter how much of the imcome was the wife's, it's still half hers.

Division of a refund on a joint return is between the parties involved, whatever they agree on.

Rob
If you and your spouse have separate bank accounts you can elect to have what ever portion you agree upon direct deposited to each of your accounts

If you are not doing direct deposit, a single check will be issued in both names.

It is up to you 2 as to how to distribute the refund

No, the IRS does not divide up the refund...

joint tax return refund if by check will be in both names if direct deposit you can split into multiple accounts it is considered a refund for the family. If you would like to see the tax implications if you filed separately then you have to do your taxes both ways married filing joint and married filing separate. If you went to HR BLock they can show you this difference right on the screen.

IRS DOES NOT SPLIT THE REFUND THAT IS BETWEEN YOU AND THE PERSON YOU FILED YOUR TAXES WITH.

Any refund on a joint return is legally the joint property of both parties. Neither has a legal entitlement to any particular portion of the fefund. You can share it any way that you wish.

starla_c
Talk to a lawyer. If she contributes one quarter, why would she deserve one half?

Digger
The refund check will go to whichever one of you filled out the tax return. If your husband fill out the paperwork, the check will go to him, or be direct deposited into the account he specified if he submitted it electronically. What you and him do with the money is up to the two of you.
