If theres no taxable income do you still file for state taxes?

bostonianinmo
That depends upon state law. A few states require you to file a State return if you file a Federal return, even if the Federal return is only to claim a refund of taxes withheld. Otherwise a State return is normally not required if your total income (not necessarily your calculated taxable income) is below the filing requirement amount.

you are not required to file if you have no taxable income, but if you are due a refund you may want to file to get your money back

Depending upon your State rules. Unless you are just keeping in touch...ie, you are planning in the future to file with income and you want to keep your "account" with them current.
If you are not required to file, you may be eligible for the Telephone Excise Tax Refund. Which can be filed using 1040EZ.
To check your state rules: www.irs.gov, type in state in search box, link to your State.

good luck & bless

Matt
Generally, no. But like everybody else said, you might be due a refund. If you are, you should file.

hah
No,,,,,,,,,don't think so.....best to check though, the state I live in loves to get ya.......!!!!

I believe you dont have to....but you might want t to check with the IRS or H&r BLock if you want an accurate answer.
