You don't pay taxes by April 15...you have to FILE your tax report by that day. It is to make sure your report is accurate.
You can tell your employer anything...that you have 200 children and your are head of household but when file yourself, you have to be honest and often you get refunds for corrections made in your favor.
If you told your employer on your W-2 that you have lots of kids, they won't hold out much for taxes and then you will end up paying in April. If you told them you had 0 dependents, there is a strong possibility you'll get a refund.
Your employer also has to file taxes and they get refunds and deductions for the number of employees they hire give salaries to. They need your identification by social security card in order to hire you legally. You also must fill out a W-2 form for them to tell them how much you want them to hold out of your taxes. What you tell them doesn't have to be what you tell the government. You can have your employer hold any amount you want for tax but you have to be honest with the government. Your employer will only do what you tell them to do but you have to do what the government tells you to do.
Later, all the money you pay to the government goes back to your employer in the form of a bail out because of your employer's mismanagement but that's another story. In our system, the employers must absolutely pay the corporations they work for in order to keep their jobs...it seems like a legalized sort of mafia plan to me but that's our government and tax system. |

Withholding is an estimate. The tax return is based on actual numbers. |

|
It is just an estimate. Even self employed people, like me, send in money quarterly, but really only file once a year.
Paying in small amounts is easier for almost all people, rather then a huge check once a year. |

What they take out is an estimate, but until you prepare your tax return showing ALL of your reportable income for the year, the estimate is probably not exactly accurate. When you prepare your return, you calculate your tax - if too much is withheld, you get the extra refunded (and yes, this is very common) - if you didn't have enough withheld, then you have to pay the rest. |

If you have enough taken out, you may not have to pay when you have your taxes done or do them yourself, you may get some money back from the IRS. |

The tax withheld is an estimate of what will be owed with the assumption that your weekly income will remain the same and that your deductions will remain the same. You claim yourself as single filing 1 deduction (yourself) so the tax is withheld at that rate (which is different than married with 1). But you may have interest income that you would also have to pay tax on, so that would increase the amount at the end of the year. Some people claim more dependents to have less tax taken out - then end up owing at the end of the year. |

Tax day is the day you need to file taxes. If you have been having some reduced from your paycheck like most people do then you may get some money back on Tax day. |

Tax Day is the last day for filing of tax returns. These returns are how
taxpayers Submit the necessary information to the IRS and State Taxing Authority. Yes taxes are taken from every paycheck but sometimes too much or not enough has been paid. It is just settling up. If you underpay your income taxes then the government adds penalties. |
