The_Boat_of_Question...
If we have Green taxes and we have a new greener way of fuelling, will they still tax us?
The name green applied to the tax is just a colloquial term they've applied to it.

Yes they will still tax you, if they developed a car that did 200 miles to gallon, they would just charge 30pound for a gallon (when its costs a pound to produce). Public services require money simple as.

Government will always look for ways to tax you. That's why certain parts of the world have Value Added Tax and/or Goods and Services Tax -- the amount of tax they're collecting from your income isn't enough, so they also have to tax you for spending your money.

Yes they will tax you, they need all the cash they can get to pay for all those immigrants that keep leaching of the state.

As we all breathe out large quantities of CO2 it wont be long before we are taxed for breathing.

Fact: Most Politicians expel larger quantities of CO2 than normal people (not just speaking but through unnecessary commuting throughout the country/world to Summits, etc - IT based meetings could limit the amount of CO2 used to get the fat-cats to Switzerland, etc)

the green claim by gov, is excuse to rob people with green taxes.
If you buy yourself a amaller car,use power saving light bulbs, use less gas less electric, Guess what will happen? They will bring in about 500 thousand more imigrants, to use more electric,
more gas, more fuel ect and undo all what you have saved. To be truly green we need counties to be self sufficiant so they dont have to send abroad for their goods, having trucks thundering across many nations with items that can be made here, the green claim is just anouther con to rob you.BUT< we do need a real green defence strategy that is not just for politics to bleed your wage packet.

Most definitely and they won't try to lead by example either (unless Cameron gets to no10!).

The revolting peasants will soon turn the United Queendom into a big, green tax-free democracy.

"Green tax" is just a buzz-word to dupe people into not protesting over yet another tax to burden them. In fact, when you look at them realistically, many don't make sense. For instance;

The government is purposing a tax on "non-efficient" energy appliances. Does this mean increased tax at purchase level or increased tax on those already using older appliances. Here's why I ask:

What consumer doesn't want an energy-efficient appliance? I mean, if we had the money wouldn't we all go out and buy the most energy-efficient we could afford to save on our energy bills all year long? So, if the government's scheme is to tax at user level, those people who already cannot afford new appliances will find themselves further burdened and their hopes of saving up for better appliances even more dim.

And, what about those people who bought energy-efficient, but their appliances are several years old. Are they supposed to go out and buy all new, whether they need them or not? Tax at user level means that even though you've done your bit to save energy, you will still be penalised. No one wins in this scenario. Our goverment is ace at passing unreasonable taxes off as necessary.

Here's a little-known fact: Bio-fuels cannot be transported via pipeline. That means more diesel-using (and polluting) lorries on our roads. So, of course when we incorporate bio-fuels into our "green strategy" the goverment will have to continue taxing to cover the cost of the diesel-running lorries.

Electric cars aren't the answer either. Most power-generating plants use coal or other types of fuel to generate electricity--and are amongst the most-polluting we have. So the benefits of using an electric car is offset by the increased pollution at the point of origin.

The UK is a small place and if we were to completely stopped all excessive C02 emissions, we would still not make up for the increasing amount produced by China as they become more industrialised.

C02 is a natural gas--we emit it from our bodies every day. A certain amount of global warming is inevitable--the Earth goes through natural heating and cooling cycles; always has. I agree we must find better ways--but I don't believe burdening the end-consumer to a point that their backs are breaking under the weight is the way to go.

The UK alone cannot save the planet or even make a small dent. We should be sensible and cognizant--but I personally think this goverment is taking things too far--gaining tax revenue under the guise of "Green".

So, after that long-winded speech, the answer to your question is: Yes.

good point. it is likely that if the government increases existing taxes such as fuel duty or introduces new taxes to make people live more greenly then i seriously doubt they will reduce other existing taxes such as VAT. another point is that green taxes are 'regressive' in that income tax for example is broadly fair in that the people who can least afford it actualy pay less than higher earners. however everyone needs to use fuel for transport, heating etc, if we all get a cost hike for fuel then surely the poorest people are worst affected given thast a larger proportion of their already limited income will be taken away. personally i think that wind turbines are great. a dogs home near to me has one which cost £100k sounds a lot i know but it genrates £15k a year worth of electricity. most of which the kennells sell back to the grid. clearly it wont be long before the turbine is generating loads of free elctricity and a good profit for the kennels. i think the government should provide good tax incentives for this sort of thing. maybe people in a neighbourhood could collectively build such things? at least that way they all get good value and importantly green power.

I'm sure the taxes will stay - can't imagine the Government giving up any streams of revenue.
