If you create a website using a free program are there any taxes?
I was looking into making a website on a free program and I was reading the terms of use. It said that I was responsible for paying any taxes on my website. What would those taxes be?

Max Hoopla
You just have a cost of zero for website development.

Dear Fog: If you set up a web site and sell items, you could be responsible for sales tax to your state and possibly your city. If you make a profit you will also be responsible for any income tax on your profits. Social Security and Medicare taxes are also a possibility.

This advice was prepared based on our understanding of the tax law in effect at the time it was written as it applies to the facts that you provided. Click on my profile to read more. Errol Quinn Enrolled Agent

Merely setting up a website does not generate any tax liability in and of itself. If you use the site to generate income then that income is fully taxable of course. If you are selling taxable goods and/or services to residents of your home state (or residents of any other state where you have a nexus) then you will need to collect and render the appropriate sales taxes.
