If the government owes you money, they don't care if you never file a tax return. If you didn't work, what would you file taxes with? You have no 1099s, no W-2s, no income - I don't see the point. How would they even know ? The government gets copies - if they don't get anything for you, they're not going to bother you. |

Yes you have to file, and lets say that you don't file this year and you go to file next year...the IRS will see that and you could then face being audited which is not something you want to happen to you! |

if your total wages is less than 9000 (wages, investment, passive) then you don't have to file. You must have earned wages of 3000 to get the rebate. |

Not having a job does not (necessarily) mean that you did not earn money. All money should be reported to the IRS. You may even be due a refund, if you qualify for certain refundable credits. Also, the tax stimulus payments will be based on your 2007 tax return. No income - no stimulus payment. |

No, If you earn less than your personal exemption amount, which I was $3400 for 2007 you are not required to file with the IRS, but if you are entitled to a refund you should definately file. Also you must not have any unearned income, ex. interest, dividends etc. |
