I think it's not how long you worked , but the amount of money you made. You could call them. |

Possibly. Did you have any other type of income? Unemployment is taxable by the IRS if you received it in 2006. Dividends, interest, any number of other things. If your question was "If you don't have any income of any kind in 2006 do you need to file a tax return?" the answer would be "no". |

It's not how much you worked, it's how much income you have. But if your total income was below the limit for your filing status, then no, you don't need to file.
If you had self-employment income over $400 you'd have to file.
If your income was not self-employment, then if you're single you could make up to $5150 if you're a dependent, $8450 if you're not, and you wouldn't have to file.
Other filing statuses have different limits. |

As long as you have no reportable income you do not have to submit one. If you recieved income from bank accounts or investments you will need to file a tax return.
It doesn't have to do with whether you worked or not it is based upon if you made money. |

If you make below a certain amount you do not have to file a tax return. But you need to find out exactly what that amount is. |

The answer is yes...the reason is because you may have gained interest or had other incomes. But more importantly it keeps the IRS off your butt. |
