Happily Ever Us!
If you owe on taxes--do they take your stimulus $ off of it?
I was curious how this would work?

Yes if you owe back taxes, student loans that have been defaulted or back owed child support, they will take enough to cover what you owe even if that's all of it

www.irs.gov has all the info you need on the FAQ list.

yes, they will subtract what you owe from the stimulus check. If you owe more than the check, you will still owe the irs that money. If the amount you owe is less than the stimulus check then they will send you difference.

yes, they took out the $8.00 I still owed from a previous year.

Also, they took out $42 that I owed from STATE TAXES...I put that in caps just so you can see that they also get you for State Taxes, so heads up on that.

Yes... if you owe, they will deduct what is owed, and then if there is anything left, they will send your stimulus check for that amount.

Ms. Angel..
If your account has been assessed by the time your stimulus is due to be sent to you, yes your stimulus will be offset, if your account has not been assessed then you will get the stimulus.

Yes, you will get a notice of the credit to the balance you owe

I can tell you that that is not true. I called when the checks first started coming out because I filed turbo tax. My SSN last 2 are (01). When she checked into my account she said I owed back taxes from 2000 and I also have a student loan in default which I already knew. Now keep in mind that I received a 877.00 IRS refund in February. I asked the rep why I have been receiving refunds since 2000 if I owe and she could not answer but it shows I owe back tax's. On Monday I got the 2nd letter saying I will receive my stimulus check by the 16th. So as you can see it does not always mean they will take your check or fees from your check. Hope this helps.

you better believe it
