Justin H | If you received a federal tax rebate, what would you do with it? |
From an economic stimulus standpoint, we should take such a rebate and use it to buy durable goods like TVs, washing machines, cars, etc. But if you receive one, what would you use it for.
I'm torn between saving it or buying a large screen TV. |

Stick it in the bank until I file my 2008 return in 2009.
The last time that Bush pulled this stunt it was ONLY an advance refund on the 2001 tax returns. Quite a few folks who got it wound up having to pay it back when they filed their tax returns. My fiancee at the time was one of those folks and she was furious to say the least.
Bear in mind that the sole motivation for this "rebate" is politics. The president and the Republican party are grasping at straws trying to rescue their tenuous hold on power. They're trying to buy your vote and once they have it they'll take the payment back. Nice guys, huh?
George Bush has NO CLUE what life is like here in the trenches. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and has been sticking it up the average citizen's backside ever since. He hasn't bought a tank of gasoline in a decade or more and he's never run a cart full of groceries through the self checkout line at Wally World and had his check or debit card refused. |

I don't know why someone would say that having money returned to them from the Fed. Govt. wouldn't work. It SURE AS HELL WOULD WORK FOR MY BANK ACCOUNT!!
Paying bills, saving it or spending it, it is still good to have.
I'm definitely using it towards buying a new firearm. Been waiting for the 2007 refund to do so. This just makes me look at the more expensive one's on the shelf's now! lol! |

This is a bad idea. It is only an advance of your tax refund.
However, most people are just going to piss away this check and when it comes time to file their 2008 taxes in 2009, they will be in for quite a shock because they will have to pay it back. |

Pay bills just like most of the rest of the people who really need these refunds. The refund idea DOE NOT WORK. The people who need it are not going to spend it on extravagances, they will pay off bills. The people who aren't in debt can already afford to buy things so where is any new money being spent? |

Pay off debt. Definitely. Savings account pay around 1%, usually less, but debts have 22% interest sometimes, maybe more. You are WAY better off using that rebate to stop that 22% interest you are paying. But why are you asking? There will be no rebate. |

I bet a large percentage will put oil in their furnace and some gas in their car. So, who ends up with a lion's share of this money, OPEC does. I think Bush should save the money for thousands of checks, envelopes and postage and just send one big check to the Middle East and get it over with. |
