Can my parents claim me as a dependant? Additional Details I dont want to claim dependant, and as far as the paper trail i meant that i paid my dad for my part in tuition. My dad is fighting me on my filing status b/c he gets a big tax break. I dont want to do anything illegal that why i was asking. |

If you did NOT live with your parents at all in 2007, but rather with your grandmother, your father should lose any contest on claiming you. Who pays your living expenses with grandma? Rent, utilities, food? There are worksheets to figure out who pays 1/2 your support.
Can you check this out and compromise? |

If you made 25000 you will have made some type of paper trail! Did you earn this money by criminal ways? If not there is a record somewhere of this earnings.
You have an income anyway why do you want to be a dependant of your parents? You can afford to keep yourself, so do, don't sponge off the rest of us! |

Not if you're not living with them and making your own money no! i think dependants have to be under 18 anyway |

No, since you don't live with them and you support yourself they cannot claim you. If they do and you made 25000 last year they will be paying a load of taxes.. |
