In order to claim a dependent you have to show income (earnings from employment)and qualify as "Head of Household" (primary provider for yourself and a dependent). Then you may qualify for an "earned income credit" which would give you a refund greater than the amount you actually paid in but, if you didn't earn any money you don't file a return and therefor will not receive a "refund" |

You can only get refunds if you paid something in taxes to begin with. That's why its a refund. The federal aid package that they are making may give you a rebate for prior years if your worked before. |

If you had no income, then no. It's a refund. Meaning, giving money back that you paid. If you didnt pay, you can't get refund. |

No, not unless you are married and filing jointly and your husband had an income. But, if you are a single mom and did not work or receive any income, then there is no credit that you can receive for having a child.
If you did work, there is a Child Tax Credit which reduces the tax you owe, an Additional Child Tax Credit which actually gives you a refund, and Earned Income Credit that is a refund if you make under $38,000 or so.
But, no income means no tax credit or refund for your child...sorry! |

no, you would have had to have worked - or made some sort of income - which does not include child support. |

If you had no earned income, then no you can't get any kind of refund. |

The key word in Income Taxes is "Income". If you didn't have any, you need not file. Thus, you don't deserve a refund if you never paid taxes on income you didn't get. |

No you cant, you should consider starting you own business. If you like to, let me know! You won't ever worry about a tax return because no one pays you like you pay yourself! |

You didn't work, who paid your bills? They would claim you and your daughter.
If you don't pay taxes (which is essentially loaning the government money if you don't make a lot), you don't get a refund. |

you cant get any refunds if you didn't pay tax. the point of a refund is to give back extra tax they took. if you didn't work, you didnt pay tax. |

You have to have made some income to file taxes. If you made over the amount of the personal exemption this year, ie about 3500, you can file and claim head of household (if you are) and earned income credit. There are other factors. If you had no income at all, then you can't file taxes and get a refund. |
