of course you do
you may owe money or get some back

Pick up the phone and call your local IRS office to ask. Don't ever go to anyone but the tax department of a tax accountant or tax lawyer for a question about taxes. Getting a wrong answer simply isn't worth it.

I think Judy is mistaken about the $600 amount, but the rest of her answer is correct. If you had any Federal income tax withheld, You are either required to file, or entitled to a refund of the amount withheld. You can only claim the refund if you file. You have nothing to lose by filing and you may gain a refund.

If you made over $3000.00, you do have to file a return.

Later in life, you'll be glad you did. Your social security is derived from the numbers you turn in on your income statements.

If you're a dependent of anyone, like your parents, then you have to file a federal tax return if you made over $600. But you could make up to $5150 and not have to pay any federal income tax. If you're not someone's dependent, then you could make up to $8450 without having to file or owe any tax.

Even if you aren't required to file, though, you should if you had anything withheld, since you won't get it refunded to you unless you file.

All depends on the amount you made in that
period of time. Just file and you may get money back. If you do not and they come after you it could cat a lot more than what is due.

Everyone should compute their tax position each year. If one is required to file, then a return must be filed. That is the law. If a return does not have to be filed, but a refund is due, why would the taxpayer not want to claim the refund?

If you are under 18, I assume you are still living at home? If yes, you are almost certainly going to be a dependent of your parents. Just double check that with them, to be sure.

Do you think you can do your return yourself? Once you know whether or not you are a dependent, go to www.irs.gov and click on the FreeFile icon. Then answer a few basic questions about yourself and it will direct you to an online service that is free or very low-cost.

It should be easy to fill in the forms online. What you must remember above all others is to answer the questions about being a dependent correctly.

As you are under 18, you will need someone with a credit card if you use a service which requires payment.

Yes you have to file taxes. You have to file them even if you worked just 6 months.

Of course you should file. You get most or all of your State and Federal taxes back (not the FICA).

In fact, it's illegal to NOT file.

The Form 1040EZ is simple, and you an file it online. Your state form should be easy too.

And, you get $$$$$$$$$$$ back!!!
