In regards to writing off cosmetic surgery?
I had a breast augmentation done. It has created a stronger sense of self-esteem, and self worth. In return I am able to be more assertive and more decisive as I feel much stronger. As a funeral director/embalmer, t his has made a significant difference. With these results, is there a chance of a tax deduction for the procedure?

Jen G
Not likely

linluv2001
No. That isnt a qualified medical expense. Cosmetic surgery isnt covered unless DR prescribes for health reasons.

Highly doubtful.

I'm glad that it has helped your self-esteem, but I think for tax deduction it has to have a physical improvement--such as a reduction in back/shoulder pain for those who have had breast reduction surgery.

Still, you could always look into it.

Probably not. It wasn't required for your work, it wasn't correcting an injury, defect or disease, and improvement of health and outlook are specifically noted as not qualifying, not to mention these are things you discovered after you had the surgery. Chances are really rather slim.

The only time I've heard of a breast augmentation being deductible was for a stripper. In that case, she was only able to claim it was a business expense after proving they were so large that they caused back pain and thus there was no personal benefit.

Not a chance.
The only way a 'boob job' is going to be deductible is if you have a mastectomy as a result of cancer and opt for reconstructive surgery.

Steve R
No, cosmetic procedures are not tax deductible.

No. With all do respect, hun, what on earth would make you think you could write something like that off? I am sure that augmentation enhances everyone's self-worth, self-esteem and appearance that has implants, can you imagine what the IRS would think if everyone that had breast implants tried to write them off?

Terry M
Not directly I dont think but you may can put it on your schedule A itemized deduction list under medical expenses.
