Maria Gallercia | In your opinion, which is better H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt? |
Which is the best place for tax preparation, and why? Thank you in advance. |

They're about equal. Some tax preparers working for both of them are highly competent professionals. Sadly, they both also have their share of incompetent idiots who should stick to their day jobs of flipping burgers or swinging mops.
Personally, I wouldn't deal with either of them based upon the number of their messes that I've had to unwind over the years.
My biggest axes to grind with them are their loan-shark refund anticipation loan rates and their high-pressure tactics in pushing poorly performing IRA accounts upon taxpayers who have a refund coming. |

Those places are basically both LOAN SHARKS! They charge outrageous preparation fees PLUS "Rapid Refund" fees to low income people who want their refunds quickly. The best way to get your money quickly, if you have a relatively simple return, is to just go on the IRS website & use the "fill-in" forms AS SOON AS you get your W-2s. Your refund will usually come in just a couple of weeks after you mail your return. If your return is more complex, hire an ACTUAL CPA to prepare the return. It is better to wait longer for your refund than to screw up the return & have the IRS ask for some of it back (+interest & penalties!) later in the year! |

I've worked for both. H&R Block has more enrolled agents (these are the people that would go in front of the IRS on your behalf) than Jackson Hewitt. Jackson Hewitt costs less than H&R Block. |

I currently work for JH. I did a 12 week book course prior to the season, have on going training, plus we have many traing materials on our intranet site.
This year, I have had 10-15 customers complain to me about Block and how they will never go there again, mostly about their tax prep fees, which in my area they went up.
As far as the RALs, it is not JH or Block who charge the fees, it is the bank. They have a tax refund account fee and the finance charge. People who need their money the next day like these, or if they want our tax prep fees taken out of their check. |

Neither are good. I worked for Liberty Tax for 6 years and have not heard good things about either of them. High fees and low refunds that is not the case here. Go to a Liberty Tax get a free estimate then go elsewhere and do the same. I can gaurantee you'll get faster and friendlier service.Hope this helps:) |

You don't HAVE to use their "instant refund" program.
Go to a CPA?? and pay $ 500.00???
HR Block has been around a lot longer,
and theiroffices seem to have more privacy.
I know they really empasize quality. Also, their reginal offices aremanned afterthe tax season. |

Neither. You should hire a private, independent CPA named Fred. |
