Scouse | Incapability Brown is hinting at tax cuts. How are they going to finance it? ? |
The British Government always gives with one hand and takes with the other and swallows the rest with a big mouth. I look upon the ideas with shall we say a cynical interest Additional Details In honesty I did not invent the name someone else on here did and I must give them the credit. it is too original for me to invent |

The simple answer is that he won't have to finance it. This recession is likely to last beyond the next election. As a result Brown can give away as much as he likes knowing perfectly well that as his chances of winning the election aren't far short of zero, it's the poor b-----s who form the next government that will have the problem of finding the money. |

In a period of recession, the theory calls for a reduction in taxes funded by increasing the money supply for a short time. In this theory the increased money in the economy will have to be taxed back out as we come out of the recession, or it will create inflation.
We often think of taxation as the way we pay for government spending, but taxation is really needed mostly to stabilize the value of the currency. During a recession we can afford to have more money in circulation, just so long as we take care to remove the excess once th recession is gone. |

sky high increase on alcohol to deal with binge drinking, lower stamp duty threshold because house prices are dropping and increase tobacco duty because the smoking ban has been too successful and revenue has dropped.just a few random thoughts.all these are for our benefit of course, not to finance any government initiative. |
