stormydays | Income and Council Tax (UK) who is it for? |
Am i right in the following please:-
Income tax is deducted and contributes towards maintaining bodies like the Police, NHS, Armed Forces and Social Security....etc
Council tax is paid and contributes towards Local Primary Care Trusts?...Local/Regional Police? and certain council services such as maintaining your local town...collecting refuse etc.
If i am right in the above.....how come we contribute to NHS and again to local primary care (arent they the same?) And the local Police and national police are they not the same.....
Please dont think for one moment i am moaning about these payments to these bodies...i am not. I am just trying to figure out the council tax charges
Also in addition.....UK is short of NHS dentists and alot of the public find it difficult to obtain one....but we pay for them....dont we? |

Income Tax covers anything the treasury wants to spend it on which includes things that council tax goes towards.
Council tax is more specifically allocated and part covers education, social services, emergency services and other local council services. You'll get a breakdown each year from the council.
Council tax receipts are insufficient to cover all the NHS, education, social security and emergency services costs - in fact they probably don't even get close. So income tax receipts top it up. |

Think of the council and central government as two businesses which launder money to those employed by those businesses. The business it is in is taking money from you with menaces. If you do not pay, the local and central government will threaten you with prison and fines.
Most refuse collection these days make a profit on recycling and consequently the only service which is delivered by a local council is money laundering enforcement.
Think of the corrupt police as the MAFIA henchmen, and the government and local councillors as the MAFIA dons. They look after their own, and steal money from honest decent people.
There are firemen, who sit around playing cards all day when they could be doing some community work. Instead they are paid for doing nothing most of the time. They could be out collecting litter in the streets to justify their laziness and greed.
Then there are schools and teachers to pay. This takes a significant chunk of central government money laundering. Within schools, money is laundered to builders and outside contractors. This all has to be paid for out of taxes.
The NHS is notorious for laundering money to drug companies, and wasting enormous amounts on computer systems which will never get used. All in the name of "data protection act". Enormous amounts of tax are laundered through the NHS system. This is almost universally unique to the UK. The awarding of government contracts via these money laundering systems, is what makes the world go round.
Is it any wonder people object to being taxed, when they receive nothing at all in return?
From my local council accounts in 2005-2006 65% of the net expenditure went on Education and Social work. 16% went on transport, culture and sport. 10% went on a "payment to joint boards". And the remainder appeared to be many minor costs of administration. (such as councillors salaries)
The police and fire services are a relatively minor cost in terms of the councils net expenditure accounts. By far the largest local council costs are the education of children and social work for the elderly and needy. Income benefits are not paid out of local council tax. These are generated from national insurance payments. |

Yes but you also pay for good causes too like paying unemployed people benefits, paying for all the people in prison and also housing the immigrants when they come over!
Don't think it just goes to waste! |

Hi
Income tax is used by the government for what ever they wish to do with it.
Council tax is used for what ever the council wish.
Bugger isn't it. |

Think Tank
|
NHS is over subscribed and underfunded, where does the tax money go if the NHS is underfunded, the answer is to fighting wars and so many hospitals are closing. The Government seems to be into consolidating things, so why not tax. That tax is so that they can do what they claim they will do, but when they don't then they haven't lost anything. |

Aren't you lucky you don't remember the basic rate of income tax over 30p in the Pound? It wasn't that long ago. |

NHS is probably more like hospitals and primary care maybe doctors surgerys etc, same with the police I would imagine the words primary, local & national mean alot more interanally to the government than we know.
Don't forget that your income tax & NI not only goes to worthwhile causes like Police, NHS, Armed forces, legitimate unemployed, elderly, sick etc, but also to all those that cant be bothered to work, work AND claim the dole, illegal immigrants having hotel accomodation, telephones, there own mosque's built etc. |

Ok just to set some things straight.
Centrally collected taxes such as income tax, VAT, corporation tax go into a big pool - out of this comes social security benefits, defence, prisons, the NHS etc.
Primary Care Trusts draw money directly from the Department of Health (ie the central pot) to purchase health care for the residents in their area. This includes Hospital services, Ambulance services, GP services and Dentist services. Over the last few years both GPs and Dentists were required to agree to new contracts with the NHS - most argue that the GPs got a good deal, but the dentists were last in line and the DoH had got better at negotiating tougher deals - which meant that a significant proportion of dentists didn't sign up to the NHS. So the tax payer is only paying for NHS dentists. |

The UK is one of the most taxed nations on the planet, if we were in Europe their would be a revolution. |
