No, but i may be wrong and there may be other things you are entitled to claim. You really need to see a benefits officer at the job centre and maybe also someone from your local council about housing benefit or a connexions officer. You wont get the full amount of benefit as you are under 25 and so there is a single room reduction to what you can claim. Speak to an adviser, hope you get sorted.

Why do you you need your own flat at 16? You can't actually hold a tenancy until you are 18. If you have been thrown out you should go and see you local council who may be able to arrange other accommodation for you, good luck.

The Oracle
You can claim Income Support when you are 16 if:

You are a lone parent;
You are estranged from your parents/legal guardians, and in full-time education;
You are unable to work due to illness, and are estranged from parents/legal guardians.

In addition to those three criteria, you must also satisfy the normal conditions of entitlement that an "adult" claimant (one over 18) would have to meet, in terms of current income and savings.

You are not entitled to claim Income Support if you are on a Modern Apprenticehip, irrespective of your age.

However, you may be entitled to some help with your rent. Contact your local council, tell them how much you are earning and how much your rent is, and they will calculate how much rent you will need to pay based on your income.

Try
www.entitledto.co.uk
This will give you an idea of what benefits you may be able to claim.
You might not get Income Support but you might qualify for some other financial help.
If this is not of any help, try the Citizens Advice Bureau

go to your local job centre and book an appointment they will be able to help you with all your benefits i would think there would be some help you can get for having a low income

I don't believe it!

16 and 17 year olds can only claim Income Support under exceptional circumstances, and I don't think you meet those requirements.

no,you have a job,why would you be entitled to income support???

You need to speak to a benefits officer about income support, but you cannot take atenancy on a flat if you are under 18 years of age, and if you could, you would need a bond and rent in advance..

No he cannot claim simply because he is already earning more than he would recieve on the benefit....which is currently £59.15 per week.....(.if he wasnt earning he would need to claim job seekers allowance..not income support....but its the same amount anyway)

He may be able to claim housing benefit to help towards his rent but as he is under 25 he will only get the single room rent which is not usually enough to cover the rent asked by the landlord....but it helps.

are you living on your own? are you having to support yourself, pay your own bills etc? if you have rent to pay to a private lanlord (not your parents) then you may be entitiled to housing benefit. contact your local council for this. and you could also get help if you need to pay council tax. i am surprised you can afford a flat of your own, have you considered sharing with other young people? its' worth getting proper advice. there should be an advice centre that could suggest other things too. these are usually locally run, but the CAB should give you their number.
good luck.
