Inland Revenue help, please?
Hi, my Husband has just received a form stating that he may have paid too much tax in 2005-2006. The form has spaces to list all his income for that period, but it also requests copies of his P60 etc. Now, we don't have his P60 for 05-06, we have the previous years but not that one. How do we go about getting a copy?

Also, can anyone explain to me why I have to apply to the IR to get a copy of his P60 simply to send it back to the IR? Does this not seem a bit pointless? Has bureaucracy gone mad?

Thanks!
Additional Details
Edit: Sorry I should have been more specific, what department do I have to apply to to get a copy? There are about 300 different Departments listed on the IR website, and I know from experience that ringing the wrong one will be pointless.

The solution is simple, say your house was burgled and that the trespassers ate all of your P60`S.

If you keep copies of individual payslips, dig out the March 206 payslip, which should have "year to date" figures on it. i.e. income received in the year to date and tax and n.i. paid in the year and the final tax code. a copy of this payslip should suffice for the Revenue.

Employer may have a copy. Just be thankful its not a P45.

You've answered your own question really! get a copy from IR, alternatively you can request a copy from his employer for that period (or last one if there is a few)

IR wouldn't be IR without lots of red tape !!!!!!!!

You might get Statement of Earnings instead. If employer do not have copy of P60 they should be able to give you Statement of Earnings. It is a letter which confirms your earnings and tax deducted and it is accepted by IR.

And do not hope the Revenue will get it for you or will accept an explanation that you do not have P60 or that THEY have it:)
Good Luck!

It is the employer you have to contact for a copy of the P60, not the IR. The reason for this is because the P60 is a statement of all the earnings and all tax paid for a job in a financial year. If someone had two jobs then they would get two P60s - that is why the IR need you to send them on.

Any employer should be able to give you a copy of the P60 for 2005/6, but they may fill it out by hand from records - don't worry the IR will accept this.

Either way, be happy! Your husband is getting a tax rebate!

Good luck.

It's the employer who'll have a copy of his P60 so contact them

The person to ask for a copy of the P60 is the employer - it sounds to me as if the employer has not sent the info to the IR, or else it has been mislaid. His employer may not, by law give him a duplicate P60, but the IR will accept a letter from the employer showing the pay and tax deducted.

Its just red tape - Employers are not required to keep copies of P60s but some do so it may be useful to ask. Do you have your payslips, cos the March 06 one (if paid monthly) is likely to have the majority of the information you need ie - it will show your taxable pay for the year and tax paid as well as NI paid

Welcome to the world of the Inland Revenue - one part deals with rebates the other part deals with sending out forms - they may be in the same building even - but they don't talk to each other - the computers that we paid billions for don't communicate with each other!

I had a similar prob last year - I went to the offices and believe it or not - the two departments concerned were NEXT DOOR to each other ON THE SAME FLOOR- they don't talk or request info from each other!

Just send off for the form and save a lot of headaches trying to ring them - they are useless
