Is My BF Being Audited by the IRS?
How can I find out if this is true or if he is lying? Any help welcome. Additional Details My biggest concern with this is that he is lying. I have paid for some things, but he has paid me back. I just grow very tired of paying for things initially. He has a history of lies, and his "audit" has been going on for several months.
You cannot find out unless he tells you. The IRS does not communicate with others about such situations. However, what is your concern ? Many people are audited by the IRS every year. Auditing does NOT mean that he has cheated on his taxes. A small percentage of annual audits are performed on 'random' taxpayers, with no actual 'red flag' in their income returns which trigger such an audit.

He would have received a letter from the IRS with an appointment date for the audit. He should be talking with a tax professional, or at the very least, getting all his receipts and backup for his income and deductions together. But there is no way for you to call and verify with the IRS that he is being audited. They will not talk to anyone other than the taxpayer.

The only way that you would know is if he would show you the audit letter. Many people get letters from the IRS asking for additional information that are not audits but they also can be a problem. The issue here may be why should you know. It will not impact your tax situation unless you are sharing kids on his return or something like that.

Did he say he was being audited? Or ask to borrow money to help him out? If you're not sure I would ask him for the letter, or volunteer to go along with him to the audit meeting (for moral support). If he is lying, you might want to find a new BF (who know what else he's not telling the truth on).

You can't, unless you ask him to show you the letter he received from the IRS.
You might want to rethink your relationship if you think he lies to you.

You have no legal right to that information. Unless he chooses to show you the correspondence from the IRS there is NO WAY for you to know.

Ask him to show you the letter he received form the IRS saying he is being audited. I doubt the IRS will give out this info so this is probably the only way.

Are you or your child a dependent on his tax return? Then I think you should ask to see the communication from the IRS. If not, then the audit doesn't involve you and I think you should let it go.
If you are planning on marrying him, do find out about his taxes before you marry him.
