Is Property Taxes WRONG?
There could be other ways to pay for community services. Goods and sales taxes, income taxes, welcome taxes, fuel taxes, pay-per-use fees etc.

I think it's just wrong that somebody who owns his house doesn't really own it and still has to pay to live in it.

There has got to be a solution to protect property rights.

What do you think ?

Property taxes are wrong.

Private property ownership is one of the most important aspects of a free society.

No one in the U. S. actually owns property. We rent it from the government. If we don't pay our "rent" then "our" property will be repossessed.

is it 5 yet?

Taxes are not WRONG, they are needed to fund society. Property taxes improve the education of the young, lower crime, increase the productivity of the nation and the wealth and properity of all.
You might hate paying them and hate how they seem to go up every year, but that does not make the taxes wrong.

taxes are taxes - doesn't matter what kind they are - it's just how they came up the plan to support local services, and public schooling

If you eliminate property taxes, the shortfall will be made up some other way. The government will not give up one source of revenue without having a plan to make up the difference.

You're going to pay for those services one way or another. Abolishing property taxes will just generate new taxes elsewhere. (And by the way, condo fees are not taxes).

Mine went up to $5000.00 a year!!! Tell me about it! Between that and homeowners insurance...I've had a for sale sign up for 2 months !!!

Not really wrong when someone is better off they pay more taxes.
If one person owns property worth 3 million dollars and another doesn't the owner may be lower income but have bought years ago. Taxing the property will force them to sell or mortgage it maybe subdivide the land. This is harsh on old people who hoped never to move again but if we didn't one family would end up holding vast amounts of lands so others couldn't ever buy.
I have a pretty pricey house and pay taxes so I don't like it but I think it is fair. I also pay a high school tax bill and have never had children but we all benefit from an educated population so it is also fair.

i agree with you ... its like the condo fees, I hate those too.

You pay a tax for kids to go to school, they go 12 years and you pay taxes for the rest of your life! even if they go to private school. The system is un-fix-able.

All taxes are "wrong", which is why the Revolutionary War happened. Unfortunately, they are a fact, so if they have to be, vote for things that you prefer your tax dollars be spent on which could benefit you, to offset the price you pay in taxes.

I agree. I think all taxes are wrong! We get taxed on our paychecks, then turn around and get taxed on everything that we buy. Then, we have to pay a tax just to keep something after we own it. It is all wrong and makes me angry!
