Is a company suppose to charge you sales tax on your order before delivery charges or after?
I thought sales tax was to cover the cost of items purchased..... wouldnt the delivery charge go on top of the finial sub total?

Yes, you are right.

It depends on the state. You can type into yahoo the name of your state and "Department of Revenue" and you can probably find references to sales tax and what the tax is based on.

It depends on the state you live in. Delivery charges in most states are not sales taxable as it is a service and not an actual item or product. For instance some states charge sales tax on labor if a part was installed, but if there were no parts labor is not sales taxable check with the Dept. of Revenue in your state.

Sales tax depends on the state. You can check with your states Department of Revenue for details. For example, California charges tax on shipping and handling when there is service involved in picking and packing, but if the invoice clearly says delivery then it is exempt from sales tax. The company should not tax the customer for charges paid to United Postal Services, UPS, FedEx, or carriers of that sort. However, Colorado is taxable on all delivery charges.

It depends on the state. For example, California does not charge sales tax on shipping unless the company delivers with its own truck or if shipping is combined with a handling charge (not separately stated). I live in a state now that charges sales tax on the shipping as well. You would have to check with your state. .

Delivery charges are tax free...you aren't supposed to be charged tax on them....only on the items you purchased.

yeah, they should before you pay.but you never know what a busines will try to pull these days to make it look like a good deal.
