Is a monthly bus pass tax deductable?
I have to take the bus to work weekly. I buy a monthly bus pass at $75.00 a month. Is this tax deductable?

moonbeam_2000g
No this is not deductible for tac purposes as an individual. But, if you have a small business on the side, and need the bus pass to conduct business you could deduct the cost. But, if you are just setting up a company just to deduct the cost of a bus pass it is not worth the effort and expense.

No, commuting costs are never deductible.

No.

No, it's considered commuting expense, and isn't deductible.

It is absolutely not deductable. The only exceptions take into account business trips to places that are not your place of work.

But remember, you get a standard deduction on your tax return anyway.

I don't think so, but check with an accountant. We were told we couldn't deduct our high gas millages for work as it wasn't "work related" it was just our normal commuter transportation.

shoredude2
Commuting to work, by whatever means, is not deductible on your US taxes. However, monthly mass transit passes are deductible in Canada.

If you can swing it with your employer, paying for public transportation can be a fringe benefit.

yes if you are a student of any as in high school or colllege you get to savew like 50 percent.. instead of 75 since ur a student you get to pay 30 for ur monthly bus pass.. locate or search on the web ur transit stations

You need to ask a tax accountant.

Nicole Michele.
I believe so depending on what tax form you use.
