You pay no tax on the first £5220, 10% on the next £2,150 and 22% on the rest,

dels replies
Yes after your tax allowances have been deducted from the 13K And the first amount is taxed at 10% and the remainder at 22%. You will be paying tax on someting like £7800 a year.

steffi
Chrissy F has given you partly details of this year (tax allowance £5225), and tax rates for next year, which start in April, and when the 10% band is lost. See hmrc/tax rates and allowances.

Assuming from the wording you are in UK, then

522L means you get £5220 untaxed, remainder is taxed.

First taxable £2200 (approx) is taxed at 10%.

Remainder is taxed at 22%, so for you, the remainder is:

£13000 - £5220 - £2200 = £5580 (approx.)

So yes, you will be taxed at 22% on £5580 your earnings, but not all. Sorry.

You can earn £5220 without paying tax, but the tax office will sort that out for you.

mrsc
if you are in the uk then yes, have a look here.......

Dory
In the UK the basic rate for 2007 /08 is 22 % if you earn between £ 2,231 & £34,600. If your tax code is 522L you won't pay tax on the first £5,220 but at 22% on the balance.
