i have a son so i think i should have to pay, but should a person who chose not to have children be forced to help pay for other childrens education? kinda like taxation without representation.

Taxes are like insurance. The expenses are covered by the whole community for the benefit of those who come unstuck. For example, car insurance. I am a good driver and I dont expect to have a 'prang' but if I do, its not going to cost me much. Taxes are a way of communal sharing, every one benefits, ( even those of us who dont have kids ).

Of course. As a child, we had the priviledge of being educated by others to grow up and support the younger and older generation. Without an educated population, the standard of living will drop dramatically.

Ms Fortune
I sure don't think that's fair!,the home owner has to support kids.. even if they have none... many people end up losing their homes because of this, especially senior citizens and disabled people on limited income...while on the other hand you can have a family with 6 kids renting an apt. or house and not paying any school taxes! definitely not fair...

Are you serious? So if those people don't want to pay for the education of the next generation, I hope they don't want to be served by a batch of under-educated doctors, politicians, attorneys, business owners, auto mechanics, etc etc. That's like saying I shouldn't pay for a military because we don't have a war in my neighborhood.

By the way, those kids will be paying for older people's Social Security. The more they earn, the more they will pay. Kind of evens out, doesn't it?

PS -- To the lady below: Even renters pay property tax. It's figured into the price of their rent. Landlords don't give away anything for free.

I don't have kids but I have no problem paying for schools. Those kids are going to look after me when I'm old; I want them to know how to read.

kylergsmom
true but , someone paid for you to go to school didnt they, and that child could one day become the person who helps save the world or a cure for hiv or something, thats like why should i pay for roads, i dont have a car or drive . or i didnt vote for bush why do i have to pay him thats the way life works and it seems to be doing ust fine btw i pay taxes home owners and never used the fire dept, humm

Life's not fair, is it?

Not Allie
Seeing as I believe all children deserve a good education so that they have a chance at life, I, being willfully childfree, have no problem paying taxes for education. I can only hope that the little I contribute will help at least one child learn well and live a happy life.

Taxes are meant for the welfare of people at large and so theres no harm in collecting school taxes even if they dont have children

The tax you pay for schools now goes to educating the children that may become doctors, nurses or police officers of which you may become dependant on one day. I don't have any children but i don't really mind, its just ensuring our future.
