Is it fair that Gypsies pay no taxes?

D
No its not. The authorities like low hanging fruit, and collect tax from the easiest and most compliant source (the average law abiding citizen and the legal motorist and home owner or tennant).

The less compliant parts of society are probably left alone because the cost to extract the tax is more than the tax itself. Also its much easier to put another penny on the cost of a litre of pertol, increase taxes on gas and electricity, increase road fund lisence, add another speed camera on teh roads, and increase council tax. Happy voting when the time comes!

cartman
no its not bloddy free loaders

Yorkshire Pudding
Right, let's get this straight, gypsies DO NOT pay taxes and no it's not fair but they aren't stupid. They know how the system works and they work it well.

The business I own is a mecca for gypsies and I have vast experience with them. The majority (not all!!) have no morals. They steal anything that's not nailed down, work cash fiddle jobs so they don't pay NI or PAYE (but are still entitled to NHS health care), run their vehicles on red diesel (usually stolen), they are involved in every scam going and they are probably one of the richest communities around. How many gypsies have you seen in old rusty caravans and cars? The one that visited me yesterday was driving a £40k Mercedes. And they do choose to live that way, why wouldn't they?

As I've already said, gypsies aren't stupid. They now arrive wearing sharp suits or "badged" corporate clothing and are driving flash cars and vans. The vast majority wouldn't know a gypsy if they fell over one and it really makes me chuckle when people defend them.

Although on the flip side, maybe we're the foolish ones, working our backsides off, surviving on very little after paying our taxes and a mortgage!

So mm

Are you saying that gypsies shouldn't pay income tax like the rest of us. Are you a gypsy? It sounds as though you haven't even heard of income tax! Do you know what it is? Everyone else pays it!

Well they do.

If they buy something in a shop they pay VAT which is 17.5% of the item.

If they buy cigarettes or alcohol (assuming they don't brew their own) they pay lots of tax.

If they use a car to pull their wagon (assuming they don't have a donkey) they pay tax on their vehicle as well as on the petrol or diesel they buy. Even if they did have a donkey they would pay VAT on donkey food.

are you sure they don't pay anything at all? there are dedicated 'traveller teams' in many councils for the kids educartion and they can also use NHS like the rest of us...are you sure they are 'exempt' or is it there is juts nothing much to tax them on? they must pay some form of tax on something....even if its only petrol (when they are on the move)

Yes it is fair. And if you were a traveller and sold crafts/services from your vardo(wagon), you too would pay no property taxes, or taxes on whatever you are selling. Otherwise, we do pay tax on all purchases, and when we do settle into a permanent home, we do pay tax on that as well. Quit feeding the stereotypes. You achieve nothing by it, besides looking stupid.
