Married filing seperate, bend over.
Compute it both ways and see what happens. |

If you have no children, and you both have comparable income, it is probably not going to matter much if you file separate or jointly. Figure your taxes both ways, and then decide.
You are free to file a separate return in any case. In order to file a joint return, you both have to agree to it. |

Most of the time, married filing jointly works out better than married filing separately. However, there are some strange circumstances where it works out better the other way. With a computerized tax package (Turbo Tax, Tax Cut, etc.), it is a relatively simple matter to figure it out both ways and see which one results in less tax. |

Generally, filing "Married Filing Separately" is the least desirable filing status to ever use. More than likely "Married Filing Jointly" will be your best bet. I sugget try it both ways and you will see for yourself. |
