Is it legal to reduce the wages after 1 year working on the same company?

missxx
I never heard of it before.

smartsassysabrina
Yes. Wages should be more flexible than they are now, it would create a better market for jobs and would decrease inflation. No one does it because of the threats of unions and minimum wage.

it is normally expressed as a clause in your contract of employment, if for example you fail to acheive what the company expects from you in terms of output or acheivement then they may review your salary/rate.

minootoo
For a season or across the whole company.

It is call employment at will.

They can just let you go, this will give you no income at all.

But in that case they have to pay unemployment, if you are eligible. You must find out why the reduction was made.

Then take it from there.

Random Hangman
Pay cuts are legal but usually they are made with the agreement of the staff.

For example, I know someone who worked for a large company that had financial troubles and so they said to the staff that they had the choice of some redundancies or they could all take a 10% pay cut. They were promised that if the company could get back to a financially stable condition, the money they had lost would be paid to them in a bonus... and it was (about 18 months after the cuts started).

In short, if they cut your salary they shou;d give you a reason and some sort of carrot to encourage you to stay.

NO. Your employer CAN'T reduce your wage without your agreement (this does not mean bonuses or other performance related goodies).
Reducing your wage is essentially constructive dismissal....
Find out what the issues are, document EVERYTHING in detail (with dates, names etc....) and make a decision about what course of action you wish to take.

stephen m
probably not if the person has been with the company for over 1 year and if there is no good reason given. if an employee has been with a company for less than a year they have very little rights. Also if there is a contract of employment it should not happen without reason been given
