Is it necessary/compulsory to file return of your income if you have a PAN however your income is not taxable.

No, not at all required. Whenever your income exceeds your tax limit then only u need to file ur income tax return. Ofcourse even without it also u can file ur return as a NIL return.

Its not a mandatory that whoever has PAN, those must file their Income tax return.

u need to file an income tax return if your income crosses the exemption limit, eg. in case of an individual the exemption limit is rs 1,10,000/- if your income is more than this sum and u do not pay taxes by virtue of your savings ( ppf, insurance etc ) u still have to file the IT return. But if your GROSS income is 1,09,999/- or less u need not file a IT return whether u hold a pan card or not.

What Mr.Ikki said is correct.Only if you have taxable income you have to file return. PAN is not the criteria. If your income is below 1,10,000/ you need not file return. If income increases and you have no tax to pay due to tax savings instruments you have to file return.- one more case you to file return in case your income is below 1.10 lakhs. - Any claim for refund of tax ( due toTDS from comm/broker, int on deposits rent etc).In this case you have to claim the refund only by submitting return.

It is not necessary to file a return when your total income is below the taxable limit even if you are having PAN number

Hi there,

It is not necessary to file your return if you have a PAN. If your income is below the taxable limit you do not have to file your tax return.

All the best.

Dear friend it in not at all necessary that you need to file a Income TAx return when your income is not taxable but you have a PAN No.

But you should make your calculation ready and you should also make computation of your taxable Income (may be it is with in exemopted limit) and try to collect all relevent document and put them neatly filled as in case after two or three years if your income become taxablethen the department may ask the details between the years oflast IT retrun and current return . So to avoid future trouble be prepared and in order.

And when you are taking all the above trouble of making all the papers available. making of computation etc then why do not you take a bit of trouble and file the return also.

This will help you in many ways. Your records would be updated and in case you need any loan ect from bank there also you can use this as a reference
