I think that you can file as soon as you get your w2s |

It will make no difference. Pay your taxes promptly and if now is convenient, go for it. Any changes in the law will be taken care of by the politicians--that's what politicians do. |

The only reason to wait is if you haven't received your W-2 or 1099. |

yes as long that you have all your paper works |

If the laws change then the changes will not apply to the 2008 tax year. If you have all your paperwork already then you can file now. |

all of the tax places are letting you file if the laws were changing and said you had to wait they would not be able to do this |

three days grace ftw

i'm not quite sure, I'm wondering the same thing. People have been saying to wait untill march and you can get a lot more back ....... but other than that i'm as in the dark as you |

I'd call H&R Block or someone to double-check on that... but if the tax laws change, I would think its for the filing year, not based on an arbitrary date. (So anything good for 2008 filing year is good, no matter when you file). |

Yes, you can file if you have all the W2 and 1099s. Tax laws are not changing for 2008 return.
Employers must mail W2 by Feb 2, 2007. If you do not receive it by Feb 15, then you can call IRS. You may be able to file without W2. However, you should wait till you get all the Forms like W2s and 1099s. If you file based on last pay slip, you may have to file amended tax return Form 1040 if there is any different figure in W2 or 1099 or you do not report all your income. For example, you receive another W2 after you have filed. Read http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/04/list-of-articles.html |

Haven't heard about any changes that will effect 2008 taxes. Can you ask a financial adviser/accountant or has your Dad already discussed the issue with his adviser/accountant? If changes will affect your filing for 2008 you could wait since you have until mid-April to file. |

You can always file an amended return if significant laws change. File and get your money. |

yep its true.. |

It is fine to file your 2008 taxes now since there will be no
change to the 2008 tax law at this point. The changes they
are debating in Congress now will only affect 2009 taxes. |

not really, we filed ours a week ago. You can do it now. Or feb.1 is a few days away. you can wait. But its ok to do it now. I dont think theyd change them after so many people have already filed. Maybe next year. |

Minor updates and changes come along all the time but in all probability none of these would affect you anyway.
I do my taxes using a tax program and whenever I go to load it, the program will check for updates. Sometimes there are, sometimes there are not, but even when there are, the bottom line never changes. But let's say there were a change that affected you, and your tax due changed by 50c. This is not a big deal and not worth fretting over.
Don't worry about it. If you start worrying about something as trivial as this, you will get OCD and be forced to wait until midnight of April 15 to file your taxes. |

I did mine, I do not think there is any problem with doing yours now, but if you want to wait till next week, it wont hurt either |
