capital | Is it possible to find out in the UK if a person is paying income tax if u know his name, surname and address? |
Is it possible to find out if a person is paying income tax in the uk if you know his name, surname and address? What details do you need to know if I want to report anybody to the Inland Revenue Office? Will that information like name, surname and address be enough to report anybody or do I need to know some more details like at least the Insurance Number?? |

File a report at your local revenue office. They will be glad to have any information which will lead to the conviction of someone who is not paying their FAIR share to the funds of the country. You presumably pay your taxes so why should they not pay too? If everyone paid then there would be more to go around for services we all need. You will not be able to access details of the taxes paid by anyone but the revenue inspectors will and do. |

Under Data Protection, it is totally illegal for an individual to have access to the other person's income tax situation. However, if you wish to report him for not paying tax and basically 'screwing the situation', then of course the tax office would be pleased to hear from you. BUT your information must be comprehensive i.e. full name and address, age, date of birth, national insurance number, current work undertaken and an assessment of what they they are actually earning ... if you also have details of their bank and savings accounts, that would be very handy. So not that easy really unless you have a lot of information. If you report someone, the HMCR will normally log the information against that person ( hence the national insurance number is a must ) and when their next tax return is due, they will query any supplied information alongside your own. But HMCR have a tough job here and people can play the game if they know how. Perhaps the people that you suspect of cheating are also claiming benefits fraudulently as well? If so, a tip off to the local council and Department of Works and Pensions may have more success. Just be careful that you are right though! |

no ,but you could just grass them to the inland revenue, its like crimestoppers, anonymous.hey, forget what these others say ,if you are a tax payin member of society, unlike these soap dodgers, its your duty to grass them off, heck ill give you a medal! |

I suspect that all you would have to give is the person's name and address, and the reason why you think he is not paying income tax. I do not think HMRC would expect you to know his NI number - they do have their own inspectors to follow up leads after all. |

Two things will happen for sure:
First, the Revenue are not required to respect confidence so the person you report will know that you reorted them.
Secondly the Revenue will be obliged to investigate you at the same time.
This will all result in misery for you without you knowing the outcome of your snitching. |

To correct a previous poster, HMRC will NOT tell anyone who reported them. The Revenue have other ways of finding out information, and someone being investigated is never told where the info came from. You can report anonymously, although the Revenue are a bit wary of those cases.
The more info you can supply, the better, and the more chance of a successful investigation. The more people get away with on the black economy, the more the rest of us pay in tax. The Chancellor budgets to collect a set amount, and he is going to get it, one way or another. So people on the fiddle are stealing from other taxpayers. |

Everyone's tax details are confidential, so you can't find out whether anyone pays tax or not. If you suspect someone of evading tax, it is open to you to report them to HMRC who can trace anyone with just a name and address. However, they won't tell you whether they investigate that person or what the outcome is.
HMRC would evaluate the information supplied by an informant together with all the info they already have on the person before deciding to investigate. |

you will never be able to find out because the personal tax records of everybody are covered by the data protection act so you could have all the details you like and they wont help you and even if you report them you will never find out the outcome so you will never know if you have done any harm to the person involved |

Theres no point sending any details to the inland revenue. They'll just lose it. ;)

Get a life and let this person get on with theirs.. why would you want to tell Inland Revenue Office about someone.. havent you anything better to do? Are you jealous? Have they got something that you want?
What goes around comes around, they will get theirs in the end and so will you if you report them.. |
