Is it possible to live well with £50,000 per annum in UK?
I have seen the salaries in UK, i think they aren´t so high in comparison to the cost of life in UK...

Anna
I think so! It depends how you define living 'well'. But yes, definately!

I guess it depends how many kids you have if any but two people and a child could easily have a decent life on £50k

Prodigal Son
Yes if I can live on £10,000 per year, have no debt and put all my other earnings into a savings account then I'm quite sure others could too. Most people don't earn anywhere near the figure you state but it's more than possible to live on £50,000 without a doubt.

I can live 10 years on that.

You can lead a comfortable life in the UK on £50k pa. You may stuggle to buy a half decent place in central London but renting will not be a problem.

moonpig
well considering i live on 15000 a year and do pretty well i think u defo can live off 50000 with no problems as long as your not an idiot with money

This is would be around £33,000 p.a. (£650 p.w.) after deductions (including pension). You should be able to live quite comfortably with that, including a decent sized mortgage. You would be in the upper quartile of income earners in the UK

Since that is twice the average UK salary, I would certainly hope so. The problem is that whatever you earn, you always live up to and beyond that means ( in general ), so the more you earn, the more you spend. Yes, salaries can seem unrealistically low, hence the need for two incomes in every family household. Frankly, I don't think there has ever been such undue pressure on pay packets.

DRJ21
I would definately say I could live more than comfortably on that - as a working guy with student partner, we live on about a third of that, and so long as we're careful we can afford mortgage, car, etc

simplesimon
It depends what you are accustomed to, and depends what you think "living well" entails.

Its well above the national average (which is around £26k).

Its well above the threshold for the highest tax band of 40% (around £34k).

In many other countires your money would go a lot further - but then in many other countries you likely wouldn't get the same for the level of work.

The UK also has one of the highest standards of living in the world, and one of the strongest economies at the moment (despite the current global turmoil).

The Stig
Yes I think you could live quite comfortable on that.
My salary for last year was around £40,000 and I didn't struggle.

Depends on where you live. We live in the South East
My wife and I have a combined income of £80,000 after 40% tax, council tax of £400 per month and mortgage we only have £800 per month to live on. Thast has to cover utility bills, groceries and everything else. We just about manage to get by, the last time wqe could afford a holiday was 2 years ago. I fail to see how anyone on less gets by in my area.

My brother lives in Wales and earns £18,000 per year. He has a similar house to me. After his mortgage, and council tax he has more money to play with than I do.

i'd love to have an income of 50k! i could live like a queen on that

Old Fart
Are you braging, yes of course you can. In South Africa that is a far above average pay check. That would be about R550 000 per year, we work for like R144 000 and is considred good pay.
