Is it true that famlies get $300 for each child under 17?? THAT IS NOT FAIR!!!?
because like my parents are no longer living together and my father and I have to stay with his mother because we don't even have our own place to stay. I am also in college (on campus right now), I can't drive/don't have a car, and am 22. My father and I are both unemployed. YET there are people out there who have actually BEEN able to get jobs, so at least they are getting money, but they have a lot of kids. So does this mean that they will really just get $300 for every kid under 17?? While my father and I sit here with NO money other than his $700/month "retirement" just because we can't get a job since for some reason people refuse to hire us? I don't know what it is. I am in college, I have a resume, I did an internship, I have academic experience...what more do employers WANT?? And why does it seem that everyone at this college, even idiots with no resume, has been able to get a job except me?? I am supposed to graduate in May and I NEED a job!!

cdlfamilyof4
interesting point.

but this is a rumor I have not found a tru answer to. the rumor also states each adult will get 600$, so guess what, if it is true, you will benefit also.

As for the job search, the economy is so piss poor right now that many well rounded, well qualified people either cant find anything PERIOD or they get looked over for someone who may seem less of a liability.

Whoa Lisa!
I don't think you're trying hard enough to get a job. Or maybe you're setting your expectations too high. Stop complaining and go apply at McDonalds if you're so desperate. Don't act like there are NO jobs for you to do. Stop acting like the victim and take control of your life and stop waiting for life to make things easy!

Joebagodonuts
Wow. Maybe it's because you have trouble focusing.

dewkisses02
They're not just being given money. It's more like an "advance" on 2009 rebates. Since you didn't have a job in 2007 and didn't pay any federal tax, it's very unlikely that you'll have a job in 2008 and pay federal tax then, so why should the government take that chance on you? Seems kind of silly to me. You don't pay a dime in, yet you expect the government to just give you money.

You have to have earned at least $3,000 to get any rebate at all, there will be alot of people who get alot less than the $600.

So, instead of sitting at your computer and complaining about the fact that you don't have a job, GO GET A JOB!!!!!! Somebody will hire you if you're willing to work.

Elle
People will be receiving $300 per dependent child. However, to receive this you must have filed taxes for this year, generally meaning you had a job in 2007. Single people who filed taxes will receive between $300 and $600 and married couples filing taxes will receive $600 to $1200 and in addition to those rates both single and married couples will receive an additional $300 per child. If you or your father did not or will not by April 15th file taxes for 2007 then you would not be eligible for this even if you were 17 or the age was extended.

To address your initial statement; everyone who has a kid knows how quickly they spend money. This is an economic stimulus plan, not a "help everyone feel rich" plan.

Rob
Proper English please; yes that is true.

Yes its true if your speaking about the check for economic stimulation.

What does this plan do for families with children?

The measure provides a $300 per child recovery rebate for families that earned at least $3,000 in 2007 (for children under 17). This will help 39 million American families with 65 million children. This will cover 87 percent of all American children.

How does the recovery rebate program work?

Single filers (and married filers filing separately) would receive a tax rebate of $600 or their net income tax liability, whichever is less. For single filers (and married filers filing separately) who have at least $3,000 of earned income, the minimum tax rebate they will receive would be $300 Married filers filing jointly would receive a tax rebate of $1,200 or their net income tax liability, whichever is less.

For married filers who have at least $3,000 of earned income, the minimum tax rebate they will receive would be $600. Each rebate will be increased by $300 for each child under the age of 17. There is no limitation to the number of children eligible per filer. For single filers (and married filers filing separately), the total rebate would phase out by five percent of adjusted gross income over $75,000 (roughly $50 of the total rebate for every $1,000 of income over $75,000). For married filers filing jointly, the total rebate would phase out by five percent of adjusted gross income over $150,000 (roughly $50 of the total rebate for every $1,000 of income over $150,000).

***ALL AMOUNTS BASED ON 2007 TAX RETURNS***

just me
If you are 22 and cannot find a job you have a serious problem. You could find a job if you really wanted one. It may not be the job you want but it would be a job that would bring in income.

I guess you would think it would be fair for people who have children under 17 to receive this money as long as you receive it also.

You are a grown adult that needs to quit complaining and do what it takes to support and/or help support yourself. Shame on you for making your retired father worry about taking care of you when you are very capable of working and bringing in money.

The money people will be receiving is a rebate on taxes they are paying this year. If you were paying taxes you would receive a rebate also.

"is it true that famlies get $300 for each child under 17"

ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. The actual number can be much higher. Ok a little straight talk, the answer is yes that is true, but also true: You can deduct from your 'taxable' income up to $4500 per child, if you have a small business and the $4500 (up to $4500) is used to 'pay' those children for doing something for you. YOu can 'pay' them up to $4500.00 with no reciepts, no checks, no 'proof' of payment and the child does not have to file taxes, and this money does not have to be counted towards any other income the child may have that might require them to do so. This applies to children up to the age of 21 if they are 'students' to 18 if they live with you.

that amount may not seem like much, but it may get a few hundred dollars of your money back, and it will also go a long way towards getting you into the "unearned income" bracket.

I didnt have a job once. I was staying at the salvation army night shelter where I met a 60 year old guy who showed me how to use vinegar to creat a window cleaning solution. The next day I had a job. That job became the first business I owned. At it's height I had an income of $90,000.00 not the biggest salary granted, but my options at the time was to go out and work really really hard to make that 90K or lay around and whine about why I couldnt get a job.

Keep looking up, cause thats where it all is.

JesseDawg
yep, pop out more kids and recieve more government assistance even though that would still cost you more

I feel you, sweetie. I've been out of college for 4 years without a job. Keep sending those resumes away... something will click. I tell myself that EVERY day. Sometimes I get frustrated (REALLY frustrated) but you just have to keep trying.

The bright side of this is you are still in college, I should have started looking while still in college but I took a year off... don't do that. I'm living on 700 a month too and I want to get married and start my life with the person I love but he's living on the same. Love doesn't care about money, it's SO hard.

There has always been a dependent tax deduction on any 1040 form. Families or any single parent or guardian of a child can claim that child a "dependent." The $300 you are hearing about is the new government stimulis plan to help economic growth in USA. They are giving an additional - on top of what people already receive for dependents - $300. Of course, you have to qualify as a dependent. You are too old to qualify as a dependent because you are old enough to support yourself. Good luck in your job search!

Robert L
I guess that you live in Michigan, the only reason that I say this is that I am a truck driver and I can't find a job either,Any way with this refund that they are giving out the only way that you can get it is to have a job that taxes are taken out of that way you have to file taxes, soc sec, retirement, disability, and workmen's comp.do not qualify do to the fact that this money was not taxed when it.

I own a business that hires a lot of people right out of college. I'm generalizing here but most people out of college work in retail, which is the business I'm in. Interviews really determine whether or not you're getting the job and with all your negativity it seems like maybe THAT is why you're not getting the job. Bitching about unemployment and other peoples benefits probably isn't going to get you a job that looks for happy people. Additionally have you ever considered the financial cost each child costs their parents? A child under 17 can't get a decent job and should be in school anyway so essentially the 300 dollars is helping provide for a person not capable of working. Why do you think divorced parents have to pay child support?? Child support is a lot more than 300 a year BTW.

go to truck driving school. 2-3 months of training and they will find you a job. average salary is 50-100k per year.

Unfortunately this is another brainless decision made by elected officials who have no clue what goes on in real America! Don't give up yet on your future. The right thing will come up for you so stay positive as that may be what an employer is looking for. There may be help for your father at the local social services. You are way ahead of the game with a college degree securing your future. Good Luck!

Maybe you are looking into jobs that you are not suited for. Either you are over qualified or under qualified. It's a very tough situation right now, but because I worked, and my husband worked and we both paid taxes, we will get money.

I am a full time college student and I work full time and have three kids so we will get $2100

Despite the sky is falling media hype unemployment has been at record lows for years. It looks like a recession may be coming however. If your father is not working it is his own fault. The government did not make your parents separate. The government should not be responsible for your education. Yes they are handing out money to people whose only skill seems to be making babies and whining for government handouts. The responsible producers of this country are limiting themselves to one or two children while paying for the lazy to crank them out by the dozen. That does not bode well for America.

.
It's not fair, but try not to let it get you down. Just keep trying to find a job and hopefully something will come up. your grandma may be able to claim you on her taxes since you live with her and she is financially responsible for you. not really sure. then maybe she could get the 300 and give it to you and your dad. Don't take my word for it I really know nothing about taxes, but what I said seems fair don't it?
