No, it is not true. That's a bunch of marlarky spread by some fringe groups.
The Income Tax laws are codified in the U.S. Code. Check out:

A sad, sad lie.
However you can go ahead and not file income taxes. Go ahead--see what happens! |

No, it is not true. There IS a law in the USA that says residents of the U.S. and all U.S. citizens have to pay income taxes on their worldwide income. Anyone who says otherwise does NOT know what they are talking about.
The U.S. Internal Revenue Code is codified in the U.S. Code as Title 26. You can read it for yourself at http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/uscode26/usc_sup_01_26.html
Title 26 is prima facie law. It is the codification of the various tax laws that were all passed by Congress. The various tax laws passed by Congress are positive law. You can read the various tax laws passed by Congress in the U.S. Statutes at Large. You can read the U.S. Statutes at Large in most Federal Depository Libraries.
http://www.gpoaccess.gov/libraries.html
You can start in Volume 68A, pg. 3.
The movie "Freedom to Fascism" is full of inaccuracies, quotes taken out-of-context, and even entirely made-up quotes. Most arguments about the income tax can be answered at http://evans-legal.com/dan/tpfaq.html |

That's an urban legend. Wish it were true, but sorry, it's not. |

This is a deliberate misrepresentation of the Constitution - yes we do have to pay taxes. |

well technically no it's not a law, what it is is an amendment to the constitution, specifically the 16th amendment which says we have to pay income taxes
"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration." |

Sadly, it is not true. It is true that none of the Founding Fathers depicted on Mount Rushmore paid any income tax. Not a cent.

If you are unemployed then yeah....you don't have to pay, but you still have to report whatever earnings you might have had in the year. Every working person in the USA has to contribute taxes though. |

There seems to be some question as to whether there exists specific legislation authorizing an income tax.
However the courts have over and over ruled that citizens have to pay it.
It therefore doesn't matter whether or not a specific law authorizing the income tax. Even if there isn't, because of the rulings of the courts, you have to pay it. PERIOD! |

Don't pay and let me know how that works out for you?
Many times criminals get away with murder or dealing drugs, just to be jailed for tax evasion? Even if it's illegal you MUST pay |

true- but it is not worth the legal fight, and you are not dealing in the gold standard anymore. Taxes were suppose to be voluntary.

Yes it is true but it doesn't matter, just look at all the responses , people have been brainwashed into thinking there is and the government(IRS) will violate everyone of your rights and no one seems to care
Ask yourself this one question , If its legal for the government to tax you at say the current 25% then its legal for them to tax you at 100% |

There are laws, often referred to as the "tax code". The argument you may be referring to is whether congress has ever had the right to make those laws, based on the constitution. That's an old discussion that gets dusted off from time to time, and is really about whether "wages" can be taxed as "income". The thought is that orgiginally, taxes were supposed to be on income...or money that was earned through investments. Wages, on the other hand, should not be taxed because they are not income.
It is, as I say, an old argument...one you are not likely to win in a tax court. |

No.
There is a law in the USA that says we have to pay income tax.
Also, there is a Community Guideline in Yahoo that says that this should be posted in the United States category and not the India category. |

The Supreme Court has ruled that the government has no authority to impose a direct unapportioned tax on the labor of the American people, and the 16th Amendment does not give the government that power. Big Brother is like a 'big' bully, so everyone complies because if you fight with them, you'll end up hurt regardless of the laws. |
