Is it true that there is no written law about paying taxes?
I resently vewied a program that stated that there is no written law that says we must pay taxes....politicians say that we pay for services for the city like trash, road repairs, police and so on.....some say that we should have a choice to contribute or not? What would you choose.....?

u just try not paying them. u'll find out about the law then.

guenthercorp
No you don't have to pay taxes. The IRS will come do all that boring and painful money grabbing in person for free.

The requirement to file an income tax return is not voluntary and is clearly set forth in Internal Revenue Code §§ 6011(a) , 6012(a) , et seq., and 6072(a).

The requirement to pay taxes is not voluntary and is clearly set forth in section 1 of the Internal Revenue Code, which imposes a tax on the taxable income of individuals, estates, and trusts as determined by the tables set forth in that section.

You should check out the 16th amendament to the Constitution then.

http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.amendmentxvi.html

On the Radio Uh Oh
Yeah, whatever everyone else said... there are thousands of pages. There's a surplus of written law.

As for choosing... I certainly wouldn't pay. I think that tax money is very beneficial in many ways, but detrimental in others. Considering the majority of the tax money is currently going to stupid wars and to fund tax cuts for corporations, I'd much prefer not paying taxes.

Since I need the police, fire, garbage and water services I would pay it. It's just like any other bill.

There are two words that describe your nutty question and the first one is bull. What part of of 90 years of enforcement don't you understand.

Smarter Than I Look
the internal revenue code is thousands and thousands of pages long.

Who wouldn't choose to not pay? Everyone wants to pocket their money versus giving it away...but if you play the game of not paying taxes, you are playing with fire. I wouldn't rely on a stupid TV show to help me determine to pay or not pay my taxes.

malcolm b
the irs was established to enforce govt legislation , specifically to get people to pay their taxes.. what youve heard is urban myth.

gtwpwns
Sorry, but that's not true. There are tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of pages to the tax code.

·THINGS I DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL I SAW THEM ON THE INTERNET:

Nobody ever really landed on the moon - it was a giant hoax. What you saw on TV was filmed in Utah.

Elvis is still alive, and performing marriage ceremonies in Las Vegas.

It is unconstitutional for the government to tax your wages (income tax), the 16th amendment was never ratified, and most of what we think of as income isn't really income anyway.

Excuse me now....I just won 2 million pounds in the online UK lottery when my email was randomly selected, and I have to go answer the email.....

;-}

yes!!!!
maybe
no?

it is written into law the amount you pay as tax,
BUT
there is no law/s that actually enforce the payment collection
( the USA has enough money to do that ever it wants with the tax money- the enforce everything them self's)

helen c
i say get rid of taxes its an old fashioned law outdated by progress there must be a better allternative, its only the working man who pays

mishkin
yes it is true but you still go to jail if you don't pay

there is no constitutional law that requires anyone to pay taxes; it just does not exist! there are laws about how you should do but none that you should

Freedom is an Illusion...

the real question should be : how did we get to a point were we let our representatives tax us on money we have already paid taxes on. ie. income tax, sales tax. inheritance tax, etc.etc.etc.
