Absolutely not. You have until April 15 to file the previous year's taxes.

You can, however, file a form 1040X to amend a previous year's return. The time limit on that varies from two to seven years, depending on refunds and business deductions.

Check www.irs.gov for more info on amended returns. Form 1040X or tax topic 308.

The ansuer is NO, You must file all the years that you have not filed at all, but if there are refunds due you there is a statute of limitations of 3 years on them. which means that you can file and recieve a refund from the tax year of 2003 but it must be postmarked by April 16th, 2007 in order to recieve the refund for 2003, if there are refunds due you for any of the prior years you have lost those refunds to the IRS . you can still recieve refunds for 2003,2004,2005 with no penalities or interest charged for late filing, but the earlier ones if you owe you will be penalized, 25% for none filing, plus the going interest rate per quarter compounded daily, and 1/2 of 1% per month also compounded dailyi
If it turns out you owe taxes for any of the years, you will still have to pay the taxes plus any interest and penalties from the filing date for those years, which means April 15 of the year after the year due.

If you don't mind paying all the fines and penalties, and believe me... that add up very, very quickly.

No, you can go back three years to file for unclaimed refunds. If you are required to file, the IRS will come knocking alot sooner than that.

Absolutely not. The IRS will catch up with you sooner than that.

I'm not sure on that but, here is some advice wait to file until you have your w-2 form(s). check your last pay stub form last year against your W-2 to make sure everything matches. If not your employers can be in serious trouble with the IRS.

The statue of limitations is 3 years. If you have a refund coming using the standard deduction, IRS will not bother you, it will just keep the money. The only time IRS goes back farther than 3 years is for fraud, and there is no statue of limitations for that. Remember, 3 years is like 4 years. Today is Jan. 2007, you can file taxes from 2003 until April 15th, then after that you would only be able to file taxes from 2004. If you owe taxes, IRS has probably already contacted you, or will in the near future.

As long as you don't owe money. Otherwise you have steep penalties in paying the money.
