Is money gifted to my children taxable under the kiddie tax law?
My mother gave each of my children $10000. Does the kiddie tax law affect this?

Gifts are not income.

So, No, they are not subject to the Kiddie Tax or any other Income Tax on this money.

Yes, you mother can gift $10,000 to each of the children without any gift tax implication. Read a bout the gift tax http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/03/us-gift-tax.html

Just say thank you.

If it is a gift, the receiver doesn't pay a tax. Because it is less than 12,000, your mother doesn't need to file a gift tax return.

Kiddie tax refers to earned or investment income a child makes, that can be taxed at the higher adult rate.

No income tax liability created.
Gift tax may apply, but amount limited to $10,000 OK> Put this in bonds or something to create college fund, wedding fund, something for their future.

The kiddie tax law does not apply to your case because the transaction was between your mom and her grandkids. Anyhow, not only your mother should not be taxed on the gift because it doesn't exceed $12K, but she can also claim it as an exclusion...hope this helps:)

Bob F
No, the recipients never pay tax on a gift. But now that your kids are wealthy, they may be required to pay income tax regardless of their age, if they make enough interest or dividends on that $10K.

rtfm
Gifts are never taxable to the recipient. Your mother would have had to pay a gift tax on any amount over $12,000 that she gave to the children. Since she didn't give that much, she doesn't owe any tax either.
