The Rainmaker | Is my Dad still claiming me as a dependent on his taxes? |
I have no idea if he is! I'm not even sure if he's allowed to. I'm 23 years old and in graduate school. Would he be allowed to claim me? Is there anyway to find out for sure, without asking him? |

Yes, up to 24 years old, a full-time student. |

If you are under age 24, a full time student, and your father provides over 50% of your support, he can still claim you. As to how you find out if he is, I think that the best way is to ask. I don't know that you would actually be able to learn that information any other way. |

he is ALLOWED to if you are under 24 and a FULL TIME student. You shouldnt ask strangers on yahoo, instead you need to ask him duh! |

ask him is the easiest way and has less legal hassles. |

Why not just ask him? If you lived with your dad for at least half of 2007 (not counting time you were away at school) and you didn't provide over half of your own support, he can most likely claim you legally. |

Not really but here are some clues. Are you a full time student? If so, he is still probably claiming you. Is he still providing your total support - if so, he probably is claiming you. Are you still on his health/dental insurance? If so, he is still probably claiming you.
You could just ask him, saying "I was going to file my taxes, but wanted to make sure i wasn't going to screw up your taxes". |

Google "Publication 17" online and read about dependents. If you qualify as a depended , based on the amount of support he provides, he can claim you as a dependent.
No, there is no way to find out for sure. |

I believe he can through 23 yrs old while still in school. Better ask though to make sure |

He can if you still live in his home and he took care of you for more than half of the year.....but, If he did claim you he would have to claim all the imcome you made also.....and the only way he can do that is if he has your W-2s.
If your dad has already claimed you, you can go to any local tax service and have them look up your social security # and find out if someone has claimed you as a dependant.
It would be illegal if your dad claimed you with out having your W-2's to claim your income too. |
