All income from your employment and pension is added together for tax calculations. None is deducted directly from your (State)pension..... How it works - The same amount as you get from your pension is deducted from your tax-free allowance figure, giving you a lower tax number, so you will appear to be paying more tax from your employment. Your employer is actually deducting extra tax because of your pension. |

yes all pensions are Taxable even if you don`t work,if you earn over your allowance you pay tax on the rest. |

when you say pension i am presuming you mean an occupational pension .you will be taxed on it as income and pay tax on it after your personal allowance .you can ask your inland revenue office and they should tell you .
also if you are working you will be taxed on the total of your salary + pension . |

MAXWELL i took my private pension at 50 because it was not performing ...you will have to pay 22% tax on it.......at the moment i am waiting for my pension people"the pru" to let me know if i was given tax relief by the government on my contributions since they changed the system for self employed in 2001 /2002as i do my own accounts now i can,t be sure yet till they say yes or no............if no then i have a tax rebate if yes i don,t ...we have to pay tax all down the line mate.........you should declare it on your tax form as they will catch up later
the way to look at tax is......apart from your personal allownce of 4850? or so you will pay tax on everything .....first 1020? at 10% and the rest plus your pension at 22%.....then if self employed you also will pay 8% national insurance on your total taxable income less that 10% and less your total yearly pension...... |
