Is signing bonus money earned income for tax purposes?
We got a signing bonus and relocation expenses at the end of 2007. Is this considered earned income for the earned income credit, or should I not apply for the earned income credit? This is the only income we recieved in 2007.
The signing bonus is definitely taxable. Any bonus is considered taxable earnings.
As for relocation. It depends. If it is reimbursement of actual expenses incurred, probably not. Without specifics hard to answer so check with your accountant.

Relocation expenses are not taxable as long as you can prove you used it to relocate.
Sign on bonus for a job is taxable at your regular rate. It is earned income.
