I'm a poor college student, but let's pretend I'm rich.
What's mine is mine. What's yours is yours. What's theirs is not ours. What's ours is not theirs.
How hard is that to understand? You're not entitled to my income, no matter how superfluous it is. You have no constitutional right to it, you have no moral right to it. If I chose to donate my money to worthy causes, that's my business. If I want to give my children my fortune, that's my business. If I want to give my family a large gift, that's my business. If I want to spend ludicrous amounts of my money buying expensive things for myself while other people can't afford to go to college, as big of a jerk as it makes me sound, that MY BUSINESS.
Supporters of the progressive tax system say its purpose is to make sure everyone gets hit equally as hard by taxes. They also say it provides incentive to donate money to worthy causes because that money is deductible.
The truth is that the progressive tax system causes a disincentive to become rich and a disincentive to get out of poverty.
The progressive tax system is simply fiscal jealousy that's perpetuated by politicians looking for the vote and a Congress that loves hemorrhaging money. |

Look at the following link an you will see that the richest 20% of American's pay 70+% of income taxes, the next richest 20% pay 15+% of income taxes, the next middle 20% pay about 10% of the income tax, etc. So, basically the richest people pay lots more income tax than everybody else.

i agree with "cottons" answer and want to add that if we raise taxes, it will ultimately end up hurting poor people |

Silly silly rabbit. Yes rich people have lots of ways to avoid taxes, but they still pay most of the income tax in this country. The real reason it hurts middle class is the percentage of tax to their total assets. A million dollar tax bill to someone who is a billionaire is nothing, but a 5000.00 tax bill to someone who makes 40000.00 is a lot.
But there are ways to get more taxes from rich people. Go read about alternative minimum tax.
Poor people are the lucky ones. They don't pay tax, get earned income credit, which is free money from the government. Its like a negative tax. They get free food, housing, insurance and money. I work 50 hours a week to support my family and the only credit I get is Child tax credit. Not only do they get free money, they commit tax fraud to get even more. A woman who doesn't work, will sell her children's social security numbers to someone who does so they can split the 5000.00 of earned income credit. Every dollar these "poor" steal from the government is a dollar you and I have to pay. These people will even call the IRS saying that their friend never gave them their share of the 5000.00. How dumb can you be that you call the IRS to say you just commit ed tax fraud. |

No matter how much or how little, you always feel that you are paying too much in taxes. Taxation is based on the idea that someone else knows more about how you should spend your money than you do. If I were to take your money and spend it on my own personal projects, they would call it theft and lock me up. Well, taxation is theft. Just because it is done by a bunch of thugs with guns who call themselves a "government" does not change the essential nature of the act. A thief is a thief, and it does not matter if he bought himself a government, an army or a country. He usually bought himself the ability to steal your money with borrowed money, that he will bepaying back with someone else's..... Yours! |

I believe that were tax laws adaquetely enforced there wouldn't be as much of a problem. Also, if they checked the way certain laws are being used they could put a stop to abuses. that would help as well. The best way in my opinion would be if they finally put functional laws into place to stop "pork" spending. |

the richer you are the more taxes you have to pay. I forget what it is. There are loopholes but I think they are getting rid of those |
