lambochops07 | Is the tv licence a tax or a fee? |
And do other countries charge like this |
|

Doesn't matter what label you put on it, you still have to pay up if you have a TV. Other countries don't have a major non-commercial television station/s, so it doesn't arise.
What really P's me off is when poor women get put in jail for non-payment of this fee/tax. Their kids suffer and the taxpayer shells out a fortune to keep the kids in foster care and mum in jail. Really logical, huh? |

a fee |

Its a fee charged by the BBC because they dont have commercials, they take the money from our pockets instead. Unfortuanatly its not optional. |

Since the money goes to the BBC & not to the government (which does not control the BBC) it is a fee. However, the obligation to pay it is enshrined in legislationdating back to the beginning of broadcasting when there was only the BBC and the wireless! Hence non-payment is a criminal offence. If you have a TV set that is incapable of receiving terrestrial signals, that you use for videos or DVD's only, you can avoid the fee, but the set must not be capable of receiving a signal - it is that for which the fee is levied. |

They say it's a ( fee ) BUT it's not really, as they use force to MAKE you pay it. and they SAY you need a TV Licence for a Computer too, and even a Mobile Phone, DVD recorder, Free View and so on. It's a type of Forced TAX on a Media item, that the UK public use at home. |

It's a TAX, you cant get jailed for owing a "Fee"
Hence the detectors and the amount of adverts the government places on TV, newspapers etc..... |

the TV licence is a form of hypothecation tax to fund broadcasting to the public.
