Is there a reward for info on Tax Fraud?
I was informed that there is a reward from the IRS if you inform them of a person performing Tax fraud. If this is true what kind of reward, and what is the process?
Additional Details
First of all I am a business owner, I cash checks and today started the releas of these big tax checks. The thing that I am upset about is that I have 2 children my husband works I have this store and we do not get 5-7k back in taxes. Most of these people are my customers that are offering their childrens SS# for a fee. Now you tell me how it is that I have to pay in so much and these ppl can sale a SS# and get cash?

Government give a reward??? Are you kidding??? haha

John Hightower
There is a reward.

Go to www.irs.gov and look it up.

It will vary some, based upon how much evidence you can provide.

I reported a nursing assistant who was doing home care and taking things from the houses. On her income, there was no way she could afford her lifestyle.

Yes you may be eligible for a reward (if you like paperwork). Look at the IRS link below.

Its not being a tattletail, it is stopping fraud. If everyone paid there taxes as they should, your tax liability would likely be lower.

If I have ti pay my taxes, then everyone should pay theirs. It is not tattling, it is making sure everyone pays their fair share.

Here's the page with the link to the form you need.

It says a reward is possible. I believe it's up to 10% of the unpaid taxes, or 10% of the amount recovered.

Their site doesn't seem to clarify how much it would be. But there's another form you'll need to submit to get your reward. Here's the link for it: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f211.pdf

Because, of course, the reward is taxable income to you! Gotta love the IRS.

if you can stop into a local IRS office you can ask to speak to someone in CID Criminal Investigation Div and they can help and advise you, normally they conduct fraud investigations. Or like some here say obtain proper form and send in. Last I knew the reward is 10% of what is collected if it is based on your info provided. Peaches is right, your not a tattle tale, anyone not paying their share costs you more which I would say if you ignor it then you are a sucker. Why makes anyone so special that they deserve a free ride in the tax system?

yes, if you provide them with enough information. You could be paid a percentage of the amount collected. Problem is, they pay once they collect - so IF you see any money from it, it could be 10 or 20 years from now. Plus, they may try to argue that they would have found out anyway or that your information didn't really assist them. In addition, I understand that it is not very easy to stay anonymous in this process. If you are going to inform the IRS of fraud, you need to be doing it out of civic duty and it actually needs to be occurring.

go to IRS.gov for more information

No one is perfect and everyone wants to maximize their return. Be grateful they even file. If you want some real reward turn in some drug dealers...they don't even file on that income$$$$$$$.

Reward? Tax Fraud? What was your social again?

asjrb
Go to IRS website.

Peter the Great!
I don't know if there is a rewardor not, but you will certainly earn the eternal gratitude of the person/persons you shop.

Instead of being a greedy tattletale if you have information about some possible illegal activity why don't you just turn the person in instead of worrying about what's in it for you????

Yes it is being a tattletale when you don't turn the lawbreakers in because you are worried more about your own self gain!!!! Who cares about an award turn the people in!!!!!!!!!!!!
