It's a direct tax, not apportioned.
Interestingly, I've been immediately jumped on and tagged a "tax protester".
Perhaps I just follow the constitution.

Jack | Is there an actual law that requires you to pay taxes? |
I'm being serious about this. If so, please list the law that says you have to pay taxes. |

There are literally thousands of taxes in the US, and thousands of laws that require their payment.
The basis for the laws that impose any and all taxes lies in Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution which states:
"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States"
This means that ANY tax may be imposed by Congress.
Most people in this forum that question taxes are referring to the Federal Income Tax. The law that imposes that tax is known as Title 26 of the US Code. Feel free to Google it; there are hundreds of sites with copies of it available. |

The Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution
Our Tax Codes (Local,State and Federal) have all been passed into laws and signed by the Executive Branch at each level of Government. It's all legal and tested in the Courts. |

it's already innate in every society to have taxes... actually taxes are still required even if there is no formal government... so we actually don't have a choice... laws only serve as guidelines but taxes are existent without the law...
hope this helps! |

There is no law requiring you to pay federal income tax that I've ever heard of, but it's better to pay if you don't want the IRS up on your ***. |

I know that it's unconstitutional to pay taxes.
But I also know that the country's social services would fall into ruin without taxes. |
