Its easy. Everyone stops driving for a week and stays home.
The shops would empty of fresh food, no post, no taxi's, deliveries, and it would take ages to sort out the mess.
Maybe if we didn't use so much oil in the military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan then the Arab oil producers would drop the prices. As far as they are concerned we are killing their brothers, so if they can get back at us by economic sanctions ( ie :- the price of oil ) then who can blame them ?
The French have got this sort of thing off to a fine art. I'm prepared to lose a weeks wages to make a point, but the problem is us British don't stick together, probably because we're too scared they'll use migrant workers to do our jobs. |

I wish people would get their facts straight before posting answers on here about the terrible oil companies.
The fact of the matter is this: if you take the price of petrol as £1.18 per litre (which it was about 3 weeks ago), the oil companies are making 8.8p profit. THat's NOTHING. Their profits come from selling oil, not from the pumps.
In contrast, of the £1.18 per litre we were paying, the UK government takes 54p in fuel duty, and a further 18p in VAT.
There is NO EXCUSE for fuel duty to be a percentage of the cost of the barrel - it is just another way that Labour is bleeding us dry. If you want to protest, send a petition to the government, but I wouldn't waste the time it'll take to put it together. They haven't listened to the people in this country for 5 years, they're not going to start now. |

I was sent this email may help;
We are hitting 123.9 a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying 2.00 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.
If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE
It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso |

The simple answer is stop buying it. However a blockade like we had last time seemed to be effective in the short term but inconvenienced a lot of people. simple business really, if you need it you'll pay for it. |

If everyone went on strike for even a day. By that I mean; don't drive, get the bus, get a taxi or hell even cycle your bike or walk to work - simply don't go. This would cost the government billions if everyone didn't work for one day. Yes we would lose a day's pay, but in the long run we'd be better off!
Its just a shame the big bosses who organised the last boycott have been paid off to not do it again!! |

Yes, there is something that you and everyone else can do that will help ease these high prices.
Wait for the next election and vote the clowns out that have allowed these high fuel prices to happen. Royal Dutch Shell is based out of the UK and they have several rigs operating in the North Sea, when the executives of this oil company realize that they are no longer going to be allowed to continue to rape the general consumers on their over-priced fuel, they will then lower them to a more acceptable level, especially if the new government starts imposing heavy taxes on their profits, they will lower their prices.
Elected officials all need votes in order to get into office, use your votes as a political weapon against them to get whats right for the people and whats fair for everyone.
Thank you |

Something has to be done soon, the cost of food shopping has already started to go up because of it.
The government are as much to blame as the petrol companies, they could lower the tax but they wont!
So its not just a case of boycotting the petrol companies we need to let Gordon Brown know how he is affecting the people in his country!!!!!!
Grrrrrrrr it makes me mad lol |

Ask this question to Gordon Brown....
Show tax content on petrol and diesel bills .. Surely you are breaking the law by only showing the amount of VAT on Fuel receipts from the forecourt and NOT the amount of FUEL DUTY as well..Are you wilfully tryin to deceive or hide from the general public the amount of Fuel Duty they are paying?
Is it the case that we are paying VAT on FUEL DUTY as well as the Fuel we are purchasing...This is a major issue and needs to be sorted immediately |
