Is there ever a reason why I will not recieve a W-2 from my former employer?
I left under bad circumstances, and yet have not recieved a W-2. Is there a good reason for this, or do I need to contact them and get one?

No matter what circumstances you left under, they are still required to provide you with a W-2. If they don't have your current address, they wouldn't have been able to send it to you.

Call them and request that they send you another copy.

The most common reason for not receiving a Form W-2 is a change of address that was not passed to the employer. You need to contact them to get your W-2.

No they have to send you the information by law. There is no guarantee that the great postal system will get it to you thou.

Under IRS law you should have your W-2 by now. I had the same problem in the mid 70's from a job I was laid off from. I asked for my W-2 a couple times. I kept hearing, I'm waiting on my accountant. I filed a complaint with the IRS after 2 months of the game. Come to find out, I wasn't on the payroll. Send a registered letter return receipt requested. Keep a copy of the letter, if you don't get your W-2 file a complaint at the local IRS office. It will be in a larger city, at the time there was an office in the Federal buliding about 25 miles from me. The internet will make this a lot easier

No matter what thereason he must issue you a w2,

Call and ask. If he brushes you off, then=======

Write a letter to him, send it by registered mail. If you never get one, you have documentation you tried.
If that fails, your last pay stub, or a good faith estimate will have to do.

rhsaunders
Contact them and get one. They are required by law to issue one, and the only excuse for you not having gotten one by now is that they might not have a valid address.

You absolutely must contact them and try to get a copy of your W2 - the IRS does not forgive *you* for your employer's mistake! You must estimate what you made and how much taxes were withheld (this info would be on your last paystub if you have it) and file your 2006 taxes. If you estimate incorrectly and later find out the actual amounts, you can file an amended return. Even though you left under bad circumstances, you should have received a W2 or must use estimates to file your taxes.

The only 'good' reason is if you moved and did not tell them. If that is the case, they should send you a copy if you give them your current address. By law, they must send all W-2 forms on or before Jan 31. If you have not yet received it, something is wrong. Thy contacting the employer fist. If you still don't receive your W-2, contact the IRS for assistance.
