i just received this call this morning.. the guy told me he's calling from the tax refund department.. he told me there was some kind of random pick thing every year. and i was going to receive $6000 by tomorrow and i just need to pay a one time fee like $338 in the next 6 days. they gave me a confirmation number and everything but i wasn't sure what the hell? is there such thing?! will they really give away money? i need to know because they asked for my router number and account number.. i need to know because it sounds too good to be true. please help!! asap!!
why can't they deduct the one-time fee of $338 from the $6000 which they claimed you'll be receiving?
why not call the tax refund department to enquire if they DO carry out such practices, which I doubt.

I HOPE YOU DID NOT GIVE THEM ANY BANK INFORMATION!!! If you did you should go to your bank immediately and tell them what happened. Anytime one truly wins money any fees or taxes can and should be taken off of the winnings just like the lottery. You should never have to pay money up front for winning something.

You've GOT to be kidding here. Of COURSE this is a scam. Why on earth would you even think the IRS does such a thing ?
Check with your bank immediately and tell them what happened, if you gave out your bank routing number and your account number. If you're lucky, the $338 is still there. If it's gone, you've learned ANOTHER expensive lesson.

It's a scam. I hope you didn't fall for it and give them your route and account number - if you did, call your bank quick, because they'll be taking money out, not putting it in.

As a tax accountant I receive e-mails from IRS warning of the exact sort of scam you mentioned. Call the IRS and tell them you want to report these people.
