tyrha69 | Isn't this is UNFAIR (tax rebate)? |
i'm not sure if i really understood the irs website about REBATE.....ppl who earn atleast $22,000 are subject to get (ONLY) $300 for the tax rebate.
but then ppl who also earn atleast $3000 also subjest to get SAME amount to those ppl who work OR earn MORE than them......isn't thats UNFAIR?

Yes it is unfair. People who do not pay taxes should not get a tax rebate. Just like people who do not buy a computer should not get a computer rebate. But since when is the US tax system fair? The harder you work, the more the tax system punishes you. |

This all depends on your personal outlook, and understanding of the facts.
This program is designed to give just about everyone some money, to throw back into the economy to make Bush look good, and help the Repubs retain the White House.
This money that is going to those that made enough money to pay taxes, is nothing more than an early tax rebate, the amount to be deducted from what you might have coming next year, and this plan was implimented some years ago in much the same way.
No plan, no matter how well thought out will please everyone. |

Every single taxpayer will get $300. The difference between the $300 minimum and the $600 max is how much tax you pay, not how much income you have. If you pay no tax, or up to $300 tax you will get $300. If you pay over $600 in tax you get the $600. If you pay 425 in tax you will get $425. By the way, the tax system is not designed nor does it claim to be fair. Tax breaks, rebates etc. are designed to get people to spend money. |

if you are a single adult, not claimed on anyone else's return and you make 22,000, you should get a $600 rebate - where did you get the 300 figure from -? |

it's about taxes, so yes it's unfair. |

People who have enough income to qualify but don't pay any income tax, or pay less than $300, get the basic amount of$300. If it were a true rebate, if you didn't pay any tax you wouldn't get ANYTHING. You are getting a freebie as it is. |

The intentions are fair (assuming those who earn less money will put the money back into the economy), but I do believe it is unfair in general to most of us.
It takes quite a bit of effort to NOT make at least $3000, but there are legitimate reasons for doing so. I would certainly think a lazy person living off their parents and working part time at Coach should NOT get the rebate, but the disabled veteran who lost his limbs last year SHOULD be eligible. It is difficult to manage all of this at a person to person basis, but I would rather include everyone than to exclude those who truly deserve it. I think the government feels the same way. |

A single HOH filer with 2 children already gets EIC, which is essentially free money anyway, plus $2000 child tax credit. Look at the net tax paid, a refund amount is meaningless. |

No not really, but then again I think it's for simplicity sake to group people. |

I wouldn't worry too much about it because it isn't free money anyway. You will have to claim it on next year's taxes. And I believe the amount it said at irs.gov for head of household with children who earn at least $22,000 is $395. But then if you only make $22,000 a year and you have kids then you get extra deductions as well as the earned income credit. And those are things that you don't have to pay back. These are deductions that those that make more money don't get to take. |
