hey - if you're a student you're exempt from council tax. you're university should give you a letter saying you are a student and exempt from council tax. Ring the uni HR department and ask them for help.
At the beginning of the year I think you're supposed to send a photocopy of the letter to the council so they know you're exempt!

Call the council first. I got a summons once for money I didnt owe to them, I got on the phone and explained and they sorted it all out without me having to get in touch with the courts. However, usually if you dont need to pay council tax because you are a student or for any other reason, you have to apply for council tax benefit. If you didnt do this, you may still be liable for the tax they are asking you for. |

Speak to the council offices that deal with the area you live in. Explain your situation to them and see what they say. If as you say you are exempt from paying then the summons will be stopped. |
