Let's rephrase that. The federal income tax withheld is the only figure used in conjunction with the 1040/1040A or 1040EZ. if you owe NO tax, you get it all back. If you owe tax and there was enough withheld to cover it, you get the rest back. Otherwise you owe and you send the IRS more money.

State income tax withheld is only used on the state return. Local taxes are usually a fixed %, so no forms, no refunds.

Fica/MC is mandatory and not eligible for a refund.

If your tax liability is less than that amount, the difference will be refunded to you. You won't get it all back unless your tax liability is $0.

the FIT withheld is what goes on the tax return to detrmine if you had enough tax withheld. you do not count the FICA or MEdicare Tax WH - those do not get refunded, unless you worked two jobs and made more than $102,000 and had too much FICA tax withheld (rarely happens)

If you are not claimed by anyone as a dependent and you made less than $8950, you will get it all back. If you made more, than you will probably only get part back.

your refund depends on a few things.....you could get it all back!

Generally not but on occasion this is the case. It would depend
entirely on how much income you made, your filing status,
your age, whether you have dependent children, and several
other factors.

Missy
No that is not necessarily true.

Are you single? Do you have children? How old are you? Can you be claimed as a dependent on someones taxes? Did you make more than "3500" last year? Were you a full time student? What was your gross income? How much was taken out for federal, state, social security, and medicare? Did you have any non reimbursed job expenses? Did you use your vehicle for your job? etc.

Need input!
